New Orleans JazzFest -Hotel Provincial

Two blocks From Burbon street on - Rue Chartres Street. Anybody know anything about this hotel and it's location? I am going down there for Jazz Fest and looking at this one. Please shed some light. It is in the FQ but how nice is it? Clean? Close to the action? I've never been down there and just booked my flight for a short "Jazz Fest" Gettaway with a friend. Thanks

They still have availability at this late date? If so, I'd jump on it. Any room in the Quarter is worth its weight in gold during Jazz Fest! The hotel is fine. Not luxury but not budget either. The in-hotel restaurant STELLA is wonderful!

Thanks Dan. Booking in process. Greatly appreciate the quick response. Anymore advice on this hotel? Sights not to Miss? What do they sell in the French Market?

The location is fine for staying in the Quarter. We had friends stay there years ago.
The French Market is mainly a collection of flea market type souvenir junk now. There are a few shops that have interesting things nearby. I do like 1 stall in the market (Wearable Vegetables) that has funny t-shirts. They have phrases incorporating vegetable names in them. Here is a website with examples.http://www.wearablevegetables.com/t_shirts.htm

The market is a perfect place to get cheap souvenirs. People buy the neckties & voodoo dolls to bring back as well as cheap t-shirts.

Do get a sandwich at Masperos on Decatur St (near the market). But bring cash or use their atm- no credit cards there.

Have a great time!

Thanks for the tips. How did your friends like the hotel Provincial?

Hey,

I live an hour away, how much is that hotel, I was just in N.O. and paid 152.00 at the crown plaza which was nice. Talk about where to go eat and such, go to acme oyster bar, do not go to Felix's terrible food. Pat O' Brian's for drnks is a must. Great seafood gumbo at a restaurant on Royal, way down royal but not past the Andrew Jackson hotel. It is at a corner across from an Art gallery. This is another cheap hotel located in the quarter and you just park at the Jackson Square on the river. A lot of people don't go that far but it is at the light as you aproach the Church on the left where the horse and buggy's are, right before the Cafe d'mode, take a right go up the ramp like and park to the left, great area to park. If you are looking for a really good po-boy, Marthat Stewart showed a little mom-pop seafood restaurant on Barrone street. Go down St. Charles street by street car and get off at this reastaurant call Cavalino's really good italian. Believe me whatever you do in N.O. you will have fun. I will email more, or you can tell me what you want to do besides Jazz Fest. I hope you have fun while you are here.

Hi Pistolpz,

We've been staying at the Provincial for years ang years--love it! (we live close enough so that weekend trips to NO are easy. We can leave in the morning and be there for brunch.)

The Provincial's location is just right, just around the corner from the French Market area, or just out the door if you stay in one of the buildings.

Some of the rooms open onto private little courtyards, and every room is nicely decorated in antique-y style.

The restaurant, Stella!, is excellent. (It's completely different from the old restaurant (Honfleur, I think).

Just around one corner is Irene's, also good, and close by is Croissant d'Or, perfect for breakfast pastries.

If you can get a room there for JazzFest, I suggest you do it.

I hate to recomment hotels and restaurants, because you never know another's tastes, but if you want a "New Orleans" experience, I think you will be happy at the Provincial.

Byrd

I've stayed at the Provincial three times, and I second everything Byrd said. Charming place.

I also think that the Provincial is an excellent choice. Try not to get a room in the 500 building because of the musty smell. Our room was very clean. The staff was extremely accommodating and the whole place had a wonderful NO feel. The only reason I have a problem with the 500 building was because our friends stayed there for one night and had to have their room changed due to the smell. The room itself was beautiful but the halls also smelled very musty.
