New Orleans Jazz with a teen
We'll be taking my 14 year old son to NO mid-April on vacation. He is a history and jazz buff. We've got some great suggestions for the history part. But we really need help lining up some appropriate jazz adventures!<BR>Any suggestions will really be appreciated!

Your son obviously can't get into bars but will enjoy any of the restaurants that have jazz music. Snug Harbor, Palm Court and Arnaud's jazz room immediately come to mind. Also, Preservation Hall is a must for him. (There is no minimum age at Preservation since they don't serve food/beverage!)

Thanks for the suggestions, Dan. I've looked up all of the web sites for your recommendations and they're just what we are looking for!!! My son will be happy!!!

Definitely take him to the Jazz Museum located in the old U.S. Mint building. I believe the building also served as a mint for Confederate currency and there are a few displays pertaining to this, but the jazz stuff is amazing. Louis Armstrong's first coronet and bugle, etc. We heard some great jazz just in Jackson Square on weekend days. An entertaining three-piece was performing for brunch at Brennan's restaurant. You can't walk more than a few steps in the French Quarter without hearing some good jazz.

When my son was 17 he made his first trip to New Orleans and the highpoint was a visit to Preservation Hall!
