New Orleans Jazz Fest Celeb Hangouts

We're going to go to New Orleans for the first weekend of Jazz Fest this year. I'm really looking forward to it, as it will be my first trip to the Big Easy. I've heard that in the evening, some celebs can be sighted at some of the bars and clubs around town. I was wondering, other than the House of Blues, are there some lesser known joints or "hole in the walls" that are popular haunts for visiting celebs? It's not the most important thing on my list, but am just curious. Any other suggestions on great clubs & bars that have live bands (no electronic tech dance music discos, please)will be appreciated. I know we'll have a great time!

If you're in town on Thursday evening, go to see Kermit Ruffin's show at Vaughn's in the 9th Ward (not sure where you're staying but you'll want to take a cab). I don't know if you'll see any celebs, but it's a much loved local hangout. Other places to try are the Maple Leaf, Rock and Bowl, & Snug Harbor for music, dba, the Abbey & the Circle Bar for cool hangout places. Get copies of the Gambit and Offbeat (both free all over town) for listings and addresses.

We used to run into the Neville Bros at Bennie's Bar all the time - but it's been a few years. Memory is fuzzy, but I think it's on Camp, between Upperline and Napoleon.

My best advice is to check out www.nojazzfest.com and post your question there.

All the fest experts over there will be able to help you out.
