New Orleans in June?
 

I'm thinking of taking my girlfirend to New Orleans for a weekend getaway. My first question is how bad is the weather in early June? Secondly, can anyone recommend a quaint hotel that is near all the action, but far enough away not to hear any of it after hours! And lastly are there any tours you can recommend taking (i.e. swamp, plantation etc.). <BR> <BR>Thanks for all your help. <BR>Paul

We recently had a wonderful time in an area of New Orleans called Algiers Point. It is right across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. You get to it by free ferry that runs every 15 minutes. Near all the action, but you won't hear it after hoursand has a very low crime rate. Algiers Point has old homes and is like a quant little village even with an English Pub. We stayed at a wonderful and romantic B&B with very interesting hosts. <BR>Get this... it is called House of the Rising Sun B&B. <BR>They have a web site; <BR>www.houseofhterisingsunbnb.com <BR> <BR>What ever you do , you are sure to have a great time! Early June is not very crowded as it is very hot. Not as bad as July or August, though! I think it's a great time to visit if you can deal with a little heat. I would not recommend Algiers: too far from the action and the ferry can be unpredictable at best. Last year, it also had a crime rate HIGHER than the French Quarter, contrary to the information provided in the previous post. The B&B may be lovely (not familiar with it) but I'd opt for another neighborhood.

We were in New Orleans last August and it was so hot and humid that it was sometimes difficult to breathe! But, heck...it's still one of the most wonderful cities in the world and we're going back at the end of this summer, too! I'd sure stay in the French Quarter, though, as it's got the best of New Orleans. Our current favorite hotel is the Royal Sonesta, though it's fairly large and probably wouldn't fit your requirements. If money isn't an object, you might check out Maison de Ville. By the way, many hotels are loud at night only if you have a room facing Bourbon or another rowdy street, so just be sure to ask for a room facing a courtyard or pool.

June is warm but not miserable yet. Try Soniat House or Lafitte Guest House which are both in the lower Quarter - a few blocks out of the action but close enough to get there is that's what you're looking for.
