New Orleans in July?
Is this an ok time to go? We were there in October and the weather was great. Is it just too hot in the summer? Also have heard that it can be smelly in the heat. Is that the case?

Hot and humid!!! ((b))

Hello, fiona. NO will be HOT in July, but that shouldn't stop your planning if its the most convenient time for you to travel. And July is low season, so accomodation rates should be significantly cheaper than spring, fall or winter. We were there in September for four nights. Temps never got lower than 90 during the day. We worked around the problem by strolling on whichever side of the street had the shade. And ducking in bars with air.

I have friends who went in August, and although it was hot and humid, they had a great time. They just took it easy - planned sightseeing activities for the mornings and spent the middle of their days in air conditioned cafes, naping at their hotel, or sitting in the pool. They came back out in the late afternoon to do a bit more sightseeing, have dinner, and then stayed out late enjoying the nightlife.

thanks everyone. We loved NO and would love to go back but summer is the easiest time for us to go. Looks like I should pick a hotel with a big outdoor pool and a lot of shade! Our hotel in October was the Omni Royal- small pool area but nice.

The thing is... you just NEVER know! Well, I guess it's hard to say July would be anything but HOT, but South La had record highs this October (mid 90's) and a few "cool" (mid to upper 80's) snaps in August. I agree with the plan things for early morning and late afternoons if you think it will bother you. Find a bar, pool, or bed for a nap in the afternoons!

You've been warned--hot and humid is right! Lived in LA for over 5 years just like Houston and all along the Gulf Coast, hot and sticky--but most everything is air-conditioned. But, walking around can be a pain in that heat!
