New Orleans in August

Hello All,
Need some advice, I am starting my honeymoon in New Orleans onward to a cuise, and I needed advice on Hotels? Any stayed at Monaco, Monteleone, Sheraton, Fairmount? I prefer moderately priced accomodations with exceptional service. Also if you could suggest some "must dos" in terms of dining and entertainment, it would greatly be great. Does anyone know how close the port for Carnival Cruise lines is from the French Quarter? Any comments and/or help is greatly appreciated............Thanks

Stayed at the Monteloeone once and it was a definite must don't. The location is good but the service was nonexistant and the cleanliness (granted the fault of the incredibly piggishh previous guests - I think some college guys) was not up to par. (Think plates of 2-day old food under the bed, etc.)

The French Quarter is a short taxi drive to the cruise ship terminal. We stayed at the Sheraton on Canal Street which was very nice. Just cross the street and you are in the French Quarter. Walking distance to Jackson Square.

We had a very nice dinner at Muriel's, which is right on Jackson Square and a short walk to wash it down with a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's. ((b))

Find a hotel with a pool!! It is VERY humid in August, almost unbelievably so. We last stayed at the Ritz Carlton on the edge of the quarter, sometimes they have decent rates. It is a very nice hotel, exceptional service is their stock in trade. They have a small indoor pool.

We'll be at the Monteleone in a couple of weeks and can give an update on that place when we return.

My stay away place is the Wyndham Bourbon Orleans. Name it and it didn't work, from the desk clerks and down to broken water pipes they never fixed.
