New Orleans: Hotel Dauphine -- Additional Tips?

After reading various hotel suggestions & checking out the Montelone, Omni, Royal Sonesta, and Soniat, I booked with the Hotel Dauphine for my October week in New Orleans. The price was good for my budget; location seems decent for walking to FQ sites; it's on the airport shuttle list; cancellation policy fits family needs (an elderly family member = possible plan changes), and a search using its name brought up a number of favorable reviews here.

Since its website doesn't mention a complimentary shuttle, I assume that is no longer offered. Evening ideas at this point include one of the "pub/jazz" tours and at least one visit to the casino. Will that be a security issue? Does anyone have a ballpark estimate for a taxi from the casino to the hotel?

Any other, additional tips or suggestions regarding my stay at this hotel? .. such as how near by is a stop for that famous trolley so often mentioned here?

I myself am a Senior Citizen, but active and enjoy walking.

Thanks.

Call here : 504-418-2302 for Taxi fare estimate in NOLA.

I'm going to guess it is about $8.

Repeating my original request for the "daytime" group. Thanks.

The Dauphine Orleans is a nice moderate-scale hotel. Not fancy but still has that old-world charm.

I don't recommend the airport shuttle unless you're traveling alone. Cabs cost the same if you have 2+ people in your party.

You can walk nearly everywhere in the FQ from the hotel. If a member of your party has mobility issues, cabs are cheap. Anywhere in the downtown/FQ area will be $5-10. N.O. cabs do charge extra for extra people so keep this in mind.

The St. Charles streetcar is just a few blocks away, too. Ditto the Canal streetcar. Both are fun to ride and take you to the Garden District/Uptown or City Park, respectively.

We stayed there in December and loved it. The free breakfast was really good and found the staff to be really nice. We got a room facing a brick wall and asked to moved to a better view, which they did! It was close to the FQ, and easy walking distance. Cabs are very easy.

Check out my screen name -- I believe I posted my thoughts in the hotel before.
