New Orleans Hotel
 

Hi,

My husband and I are going to be in New Orleans April 9-11. We have tentatively booked a room at the new Loews Hotel. I would appreciate any feedback on that hotel or other suggestions. Thanks.

It's a very nice hotel, I have stayed at the W and Riverside Hilton- nearby. But it is not a preferred location for me with my intense FQ activities. Right neat the casino.

I wrote a review on tripadvisor.com, just stayed there last week. Would give it a 3 out of 10. It is a new hotel but that is really the only positive thing I could say about the place. Both food and housekeeping were very bad. About a mile and a half away from the French Quarter.

I'm local so I haven't stayed there, but it's much closer to the FQ that previously suggested. It's just 6-8 blocks from Canal, the dividing line of the FQ.

It's expensive, so poor food and housekeeping aren't acceptable at all!

Hubby wears a pedometer so that's how we know the exact distance :) That was the distance from the hotel to the JAX brewery. Have fun in a great city, one of my favorite places to visit. Dan, you're lucky to live in such a historic town :)

Te distance from the Loews to Jax brewery is 1/2 mile. And it is only three or four SHORT blocks to the beginning of the French Quarter from the Loews (300 Poydras).

Went with husband last Sept for 20th anniversary and stayed at the Windsor Court. Absolutely loved it. Incredible service, gorgeous room! We liked the location. Although it was near the casino, it was easy walking distance to FQ and Riverwalk. No "view" from our room, but a nice gym and pool area that does best with morning sun. The elegant dining room was beautiful, but the food there was a bit ho-hum for the price. However, the daily tea and Sunday jazz brunch were both wonderful. We popped in to a couple other hotels to check them out, but definitely would return to the Windsor Court when we return. Have fun!

Doesn't the Loews cover an entire block with lots of different exits? Could be a question of not using the best door! :) My husband and I left the Casino one night and turned the wrong way... Walked a very long way around the whole block, when our hotel was really just around the corner! Goofy, yes, but one of those vacation stories you never forget.

Sorry, I checked again with hubby, the distance from the hotel to where you take they Gray Line bus tours (a little further up from JAX brewery) was just under a mile. My bad.

I've stayed at the Omni Royal in the French quarter and thought it was great. Its got quite a few rooms, but when we were there it had the feel of a boutique hotel.

We had a room overlooking the street, which was fine, but I have heard some criticism over the courtyard rooms.

Several years ago I visited NO and split my time between the Windsor Court and the Hotel Maison de Ville. (A convention was in town and I couldn't get the same room for my weeklong stay!) Everything about the Windsor Court was outstanding, except for the location. Their rooms and service were excellent. The doorman even remembered my name. The room was around $450 a night, but I truly felt like I was being treated like someone special. This hotel has set the standard to which I compare all others. The Hotel Maison de Ville was in the heart of the FQ and the staff was incredibly accomodating and helpful. I changed rooms several times due to the tight booking of the referenced convention, but they were always there to move my bags and I enjoyed staying in the various rooms of this old home. If I was paying only for the quality of the room and service, I'd not recommend it... but the location can't be beat and the history of the place and fun staff made it a place I want to visit again. Rooms were old (it's an old house) and housekeeping was hit and miss... but I had a great time! I didn't try either hotel's restaurants - too many others in town to visit!
