New Orleans French Quarter Hotels
Checking out New Orleans accomodations in the French Quarter, there are a lot of nice places to choose from...Does anyone have any recommendations. There is a group of abour 6-7 going mid-age adults and we probably would be looking for a pool etc. What about weather in late April early May?

I love New Orleans! We last stayed at a very nice bed & breakfast called "The Olivier House" which is 1 block off Bourbon Street. Family owned and operated. I don't recall a pool, but then again I don't think I've seen one anywhere in the French Quarter. The space is very tight, most hotels and some restaurants have courtyards, and are worth visiting as many as you can...they pride themselves on their courtyards. With a group of friends, your bound to have a good time no matter where you stay! Have fun!
Actually, many of the French Quarter hotels feature swimming pools in their courtyards. Here are some of them:

Le Richelieu
patio area with pool
SAFE, FREE PARKING (invaluable in the Quarter!)
best value in all of New Orleans, $90+
(504) 529-2492

Maison Dupuy Hotel
(504) 586-8000
Seven town houses tied together, pool, Sunday champagne jazz brunch, $150+

Place D'Armes Hotel
(504) 524-4531 pool in a wonderful courtyard, near Jackson Square, $150+

Maison de Ville
patio area with pool
25 rooms, lovely, $185+

Bienville House Hotel
(504) 529-2345
Small, elegant with pool, $150+

Chateau Sonesta Hotel
(504) 586-0800
large hotel with pool, $150+

Dauphine Orleans Hotel
(504) 586-1800
Some rooms with wrought-iron balconies overlooking pool and patio, $150+

Le Richeliue (sp?) in the French Quarter is very nice and it has a pool in the courtyard as well as a restaurant and bar. Rooms were very nice and not too expensive We were able to walk everywhere.

Here's another vote for Le Richelieu (and i'm so glad someone brought it up -- I couldn't remember the name)...We stayed there and found it quite pleasant. Small pool, but in a lovely enclosed courtyard.

On the other hand...for exquisite accommodations in the Quarter (but no pool)...it's Soniat House, a block down from Le Richelieu...at the edge of the quarter, so very quiet...but just a stroll to everything including the market.
|
PS: Your weather should be pretty good at that time (tho i think NO gets rain ANY time)...but it will be warm, and quite nice. I think there's a big jazz fest sometime in April -- check, cause you could get skunked on reservations. It gets quite crowded.

The above mentioned hotels really are nice. For something different depending on your tastes there is also the Royal Sonesta right in the middle of things! Always wanted a balcony room facing Bourbon street but am getting too old for that now. The Westin Canal Street is nice and walking/train distance to French quarter--has some upscale shopping levels---nice staff and good lobby to view the river. The Hilton is huge and only advantage to it is that it's connected to shopping mall-it's a convention hotel and that's why we stayed there. The smaller hotels really do give you a flavor of N.O.--be sure to have your beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde! p.s.--yes the weather could be pretty humid that time of year but not as bad as during summertime.

I'll add my 2 cents and recommend the Hotel Monteleone. It is family run right in the middle of the French Quarter. It is an older hotel with nice rooms, a pool on the roof. It has one of the best Steak Houses in New Orleans right on the premises. The whole city is great. Have a ball.
We have enjoyed the Hotel Ste. Helene on Chartres - two streets over from Bourbon - close enough to check it out, yet enjoy peace and quiet. Nice courtyard for lazy breakfasts, plus outdoor pool - great refresher between your daytime and nighttime activities.
Last week of April & first week of May is ALWAYS Jazz Fest - we love it, but so do about 250,000 - 500,000 other folks. Book as soon as you can if you are deadset on staying in NOLA then.
A final tip- fly into NOLA and forget about a car. Cabs are relatively cheap, and parking around the French Quarter is a supreme hassle. Once you get to hotel, you can walk or cab anywhere.

I too stayed at Hotel St. Helene. Great location! Staff are very friendly and can make great recommendations on where to listen to great blues, jazz, etc. Free breakfast and happy hour by the pool in the courtyard.

We stayed at the Hotel Provincial, a couple of blocks from the french quater, it has a pool with a cute courtyard. i would also suggest getting the entertainment book ( a great value) as we used it to try everything from fine dining to a swamp tour. car was not needed, although we rented one for a day to drive out to the plantations. sunday brunch at the court of two sisters is incredible- but make reservations! there is so much to see and do- have fun!
|
I second the opinion on the Provincial on Chartres st. Excellent value, and it does have free pkg, but you don't need a car in New Orleans. You can walk everywhere in the quarter (and can park nowhere), and a trip to the Garden District is easiest on the trolley. Don't bring a car into the Quarter!
