New Orleans for Christmas

We are considering spending Christmas in NOLA, just me and my husband. We definitely want to stay in the FQ. I've never been, he was there many years ago. I would love some suggestions as to a great hotel (non-chain, upscale).

We usually stay at the Monteleone. Been around since the late 1800's, recently remodeled. We were there over Labor Day weekend this year and enjoyed it. It is on the west edge of the quarter on Royal between Iberville and Bienville.

rooms are not huge, but big enough.

Check out Soniat House. It's a very small, boutique hotel in the FQ. Beautiful.

Hotel Monteleone is my top suggestion as well. If you don't stay there still be sure to check out their Carousel Bar. Second to that would be the Omni Royal Orleans. The Royal Sonesta is also very nice. In general, Royal is a fantastic street for your stay.

I forgot to add to check out the Reveillon Dinners around the city. For Christmas related activities there is caroling, Santa's Quarters on Decatur, hotel lobby displays (The Roosevelt, Royal Sonesta, Ritz Carlton), nearby lights display on Fulton Street and if you leave the city, the bonfires on the levee.

Try the new Roosevelt hotel. It's supposed to be awesome!

The Royal Sonesta is wonderful for a holiday stay. Ask about their Pap Noel rates when you book. (I'm not sure if they still run that promotion or not.) Also, be sure to get a room facing the inner courtyard on an upper floor. That way, you won't hear any of the street noise in the Quarter.

FYI - During the holiday season, there is a wonderful lights display in the City Park. You pay at the entrance and drive through to enjoy it. I think there is another park lights display that can be walked through. Anybody know about that one?

I used to love to take my kids thru the displays in City Park. What is it called - Christmas in the Oaks?????
