New Orleans: favorite experiences

For residents or frequent visitors, what are your favorite experiences you do over and over again. Hotels, restaurants, bars, view points, food, stores ...... .

Will stay in French Quarter and will not have a car. Like to stroll, take pictures, listen to music and visit historical sites. Love southern food and enjoy a drink or too in the evening.

Cefe Du Monde, every time, without a doubt.

We love to stay at Le Richelieu in the quiet part of the French Quarter. It has or had free parking so we could leave the car there and walk. Old, funky and comfortable.

Cafe Du Monde.

Drago's Seafood in the Riverfront Hilton. Charbroiled oysters--a dozen or two.

Other than that, we don't really have a favorite restaurant, as there are so many good ones.

Streetcar to somewhere--Up Canal to the parks and cemeteries or out St. Charles to the zoo or Tulane or. . .

Walking around and generally ending up in Jackson Square

Strolling along the River.

I love walking The French Quarter with a nice Hurricane in my hand, sticking my head in voodoo shops.

Take the streetcar uptown on St Charles, get off at the beautiful Audubon Park, walk around the park and then stroll down Magazine St, poking around in the funky stores, stopping for lunch at Guy's PoBoys or Mahoney's PoBoys, and ducking into bars for liquid refreshment as needed. When we get tired of walking we jump on the Magazine St bus back to the Quarter. The perfect day!
