New Orleans......Fairmont Hotel.......anything positive lately?

Message: I found that my work schedule allows me time to go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I have never been able to go to Mardi Gras! I went to Priceline and was able to obtain the Fairmont Hotel for $80 per night for those two nights. Checking expedia and hotels.com the best I could do was a room at the airport for $120 per night or Metarie for $99 per night.

I did a search of the fodors topics and found the following info RE the Fairmont:

1. It's rather old

2. Staff are rude

3. Rooms are small

The most recent of these postings were 4 months old and most were over two years ago. Please tell me that someone has stayed there in the past 6 months or so and has some POSITIVE info about the Fairmont.

Thanks,

Zig

Frankly I'm shocked you were able to get ANY room in New Orleans this late for Mardi Gras, much less one for $80 that didn't require more than a two night minimum stay. Consider yourself very lucky!

Maybe you'll be too trashed and too busy to care that much about the room in the little time you spend there recovering before the next outing? When I've been to Mardi Gras it is about being there and busy busy busy, always a parade to go to, places to eat, and generally out on the street enjoying the show of humanity.

I think that is an EXCELLENT deal you got. I have never stayed at the Fairmont but always walk through during the Christmas display. A great location and I'm sure you will be more than pleased.
