New Orleans cooking school
 

My husband and I will be in NO Dec. 25th-29th. I have read about the New Orleans Cooking school and it sounds like fun. They say you need reservations and I'm wondering if I need to make them from home with lots of advance notice or can we make them once we are there a day or 2 in advance? <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR>Terri <BR>

We've been there twice and loved it. I made reservations well in advance. The room is fairly small, and they call you in in the order that your reservations are, the earlier the reservations, the better seating you have, although none of them were really bad. It's been full both times we've been.

I have experienced the Cookin Cajun Cooking School located in the Riverwalk complex ONLY because it was included on a business seminar I attended last September. <BR>Quite frankly if I'd actually had to pay for it I would never have even considered it. The food was fine, but I've had tons better, the atmosphere was cramped, and basically it was one big advertisement to push their cajun cooking products sold in the store as you enter the "cooking school". Being familiar w/ N.O. it did nothing whatsoever for me, but if you've never been, it might be interesting. Personally, I would prefer to pick up some good cook book and spices elsewhere where they are cheaper, than waste my money on one of these cooking schools...That said, I know nothing specifically about the New Orleans Cooking School.

Thanks for the info. We might just take a chance and make reservations after we get there. We can't plan too far in advance on what/when we want to do when on vacation. BTW, how much is the class? <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR>Terri <BR>

Try hands on cooking lessons with Chef Richard @ House GArdens & Gumbo. One on one lessons were super & personal. You are not in a crowd of 50. <BR> <BR>Gumbo-Gardens.com

We visited the New Orleans Cooking school on a group tour a couple of years ago. It is more of a comedy act than a cooking class, rather fun, but as previous posters have mentioned, the food was okay, but only okay. And they did "push" the visit to the gift shop to buy kitchenware and spices. It was a pleasantry that I wouldn't particularly recommend, but we're all different. Enjoy your stay in New Orleans, Terri
