New Orleans - Baby Friendly tips please!!!

Going on a spur of the moment trip to New Orleans this upcoming weekend, so any quick responses would be greatly appreciated!

Need advice on where to stay - we have an 11month old, and so are looking for a SAFE and QUIET place to stay, yet still close to interesting things and good food if that's at all possible. We will have a car, but prefer to walk (walking tours, walk to restaurants) when possible.

Will be arriving late Saturday night, and leaving Wednesday afternoon.

Suggestions for a baby friendly itinerary would also be welcome (our first time travelling with a baby!!). =) We love looking at the architecture and also plan on looking at some plantations. Baby friendly restaurants anyone can recommend?

Thanks in advance!!

I took my son to New Orleans when he was 2, a little older than your son but not by much. The Children's Museum is a favorite, as is the Aquarium of the Americas and the Audubon Insectarium. I would stay somewhere near the foot of Canal Street, perhaps the hotel at Canal Place (was Westin, Windham, and various others, can't remember what it is at this moment). Easy access to the key attractions from there. The Hilton Riverside would also be close to the attractions. The key is you don't want to be pushing a stroller for long distances on the brick sidewalks in the French Quarter, I'd opt for the Warehouse District or foot of Canal area instead.

I really hope you will let us know how this trip went when you get back. It isn't a place I would have wanted to take a baby but you sound young and enthusiastic, so it would be good to let others know how you handled it!
