New Orleans, anyone?

Looking for a smaller hotel/B&B in New Orleans for a weekend in early May. Would rather not stay in a large, impersonal hotel. Anyone have any ideas??

There are many B&B's from which to choose. This forum has a lot of info about them, so try running a search. Remember that early May is a busy time and rates will be high. The Jazz Fest runs the last week-end of April and the first week-end of May, so keep that in mind when planning your trip dates.

Thanks for the advice, Meg! I think we're going to avoid the Jazz Festival since it will be our first time there. Looks like we're heading for early April.

Thanks for the heads up!

I think the weather will be more enjoyable for you in early April than in May - but it can still be unpredictable, so make sure to check the five-day forecast prior to your trip. April is also a busy time - a lot of conventions usually, so book something soon.

My wife and I favor the Bienville House on Decatur St. I have also heard good things about the Historic French Market Inn and the other small hotels in their collection. Small, comfortable, affordable.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe the Historic French Market Inn has reared its ugly head again!!! For LOTS of unflattering comments about that place, do a search of past posts on this board.

I guess I have been listening to wrong people. Word gets back to Chicago slowly. Thanks for the info. There are too many fine hotels too clutter ones choices with unreputable ones, Thanks.

We stayed at the Soniat House for three nights last month. Location is great, two blocks from Bourbon, two from waterfront. Rooms and courtyard were beautiful. Like you, we did not want to stay at a large hotel. You knew you were in N.O. at the Soniat. Have fun.

2years ago we stayed at the St.Louis and it was right off Bourbon, but nice and quiet. Last year it was Chateau Lemoyne, about 2 blocks from Bourbon. Just as nice as the St.Louis and about the same price, but a scary walk home at four a.m.! Both hotels are smallish and have excellent service.
