New Orleans 1st time: Restaurant Question?

My husband and I and our daughter, 21, are going to New Orleans for the first time- the week of May 21. We are staying at Hotel Monteleone.
Do I need to make dinner reservations?
We are interested in eating real, regional food but not necessarily "tourist" spots, except once or twice perhaps.
Does anyone have strong recommendations?? And should we reserve ahead? It's getting late....!
Thanks!

It's been few years so I'm not sure these places are still in business but I was very happy with

Commander's Palace - Creole, in the Garden District for upscale sit down experience

For lunch

Original Muffuletta sandwich at the Central Grocery

Have a great trip!

You will need a reservation at Commander's Palace or any of the other Brennan restaurants, I think. They don't have reservations at Galatoire's, a must, but having three people may be an advantage as they always matched those waiting to table size.

Definitely agree about Central Grocery, and you can eat it in the park at Jackson Square. Other characteristic, though heavily touristed, restaurants are the Acme Oyster House and Felix's nearby. Who cares if they have a lot of tourists? They also have a lot of locals. We used to enjoy Tujague's a lot. Was it fabulous food? No. Was it trend setting? Absolutely not. It was a place that was reasonably priced and relatively unchanging from decade to decade.

Downtown, I haven't eaten at the Bon Ton in some years but used to love it. I wonder if it is still there.

Bon Ton is outstanding but they are only open during the week and not on Saturday or Sunday. I think Commander's Palace, Galatoire's, Stella, Bayona, Emeril's, Muriel's, August, Patois, Coquette and Clancy's are the tops restaurants in NOLA. Have drinks on the balcony at Muriel's overlooking Jackson Square. You will need to make reservations. CP has a great lunch special during the week and weekend Jazz Brunch. Ask for a table in the Garden Room. Post back if you need more help.

Ooopsss.....left out Mr. B's. It's across the street from the Monteleone. Don't miss Galatoire's. Go for lunch during the week. They don't take reservations. You will enjoy it very much. Felix's and Acme are good casual seafood joints close by. Go to Red Gravy or Camellia Grill for breakfast.

For dinner, we ate at Commander's Palace, Emeril's (original) Bayona and MiLa when we were there a couple of years ago. All of them were very good, but Emeril's was a real standout. I'd go back just for his [iconic] Banana Cream Pie (which is big enough for 6 people to share).

Definitely Camellia Grill --- great breakfast in a time-gone-by setting, also Johnny's PoBoy for breakfast (excellent biscuits among other things -- a real dive though). Don't know if you've heard of Mother's, often a line, and we thought it was terrible.
