new orleans
hi everyone . my wife and 2 boys will be travelling to new orleans in january for the first time . any advice on where to stay , place to go would be appreciated
|
I'd try Boston. New Orleans is the pits
|
Yes, it's the pits. That's why it's always listed in polls as one of the favorite cities in the US for both int'l and domestic travelers. What a buffoon post, Sara.

Mike, if you do search by "Louisiana" in the boxes above you'll find lots of specific info on New Orleans.

I'd suggest staying in the French Quarter for your first visit.
|
Yes, the French quarter - close to everything. Activities would depend on the kids ages. If they are young (9 & under) - zoo (if its not too cold), aquarium, childrens museum, Mardi Gras World (they can see floats being made), , Musee Conti wax Museum, Cafe du Monde, French market, . Older kids - might want to skip the zoo. the Old Mint has exhibits on Jazz & Mardi Gras. There are lots of tours dealing with VooDoo, ghosts, etc. for the older kids. A lot will depend on the weather.

Sarah is on drugs!! Boston sucks!! Specially in January when you will freeze to the bones.

If you are staying in the Franch quarter, just be carefull to be a couple of blocks AWAY from Bourbon Street because it its REALLY noisy and busy.

Mike,

I would recommend you stay on Frenchmen St. There is a charming and newly renovated building that has been converted to vacation rental units. It has a pool, jacuzzi, and atrium. The rooms/units have a living area, kitchen, etc. so it's perfect for families. It's owned by French Quarter Condos. Anyway, Frenchmen street has been receiving a lot of good press lately. (Check out the April issue of Travel & Leisure.) There are wonderful shops, restaurants, and jazz halls. Plus, it's a very easy walk to the French Quarter.

Hope this helps,
Eve
