We are going in June '15 celebrating our 45th anniversary.staying at the ritz Carlton 4 days. Need help with a leisurely itineary. Am overwhelmed by what I'm reading. My husband is allergic to shellfish and a heart patient and watches what he eats sounds fun,right? We would definitely like to take a small city tour and good resturants no one mentions emrils flagship? Time is growing near and I have NO clue what to do help!

We were in NOLA in December and two of our favorite activities were the walking tour of the St. Louis Cemetery and the walking tour of the Garden District. There are also some excellent museums. We visited the National World War II Museum and the Louisiana State Museum at the Presbytere which had exhibits on Mardi Gras and Hurricane Katrina.

We like good food in unpretentious surroundings. Two of our favorites in NOLA were Mother's (ate there twice) and Deanie's.

Planning a return trip there in October (after MANY years). Plan to see the WWII museum, walking tour of Garden district (did the cemetery tour last time, recommend),one day driving to plantations to visit. Want to repeat our excellent dinner at Baynoa, and going to Commanders Palace for brunch. For fun, looking for some sort of haunted/voodoo walk. Also building in time at Jackson Square just to stroll and observe.

Now if I could only find a super hotel for a bargain price!

We haven't been in 5 years, but we LOVED Emeril's flagship, except for the exceptional noise level. The food and service were outstanding. (For a great "dive" breakfast, try Johnny's Po Boy in the French Quarter, for a trip back in time breakfast or lunch, Camellia Grill at the end of the streetcar in the Garden District. I personally didn't like Mother's at all, but it's very popular.)

The WW II Museum is outstanding.

For a nice meal, we like Muriel ' s a lot - great good, really good service and very cool building. We also like the Gumbo Shop, Kingfisher, Napoleon House, Praline Connection, Johnnys. At the bar at Tujaques you can get the brisket in a poboy - so good.

Last year I had dinner at Arnaud's. It is in the French Quarter, full of history as it opened in the early 1900's, great service but expensive. The only negative is that I felt rushed at times...but still enjoyed the meal, ambiance and wine.

Not sure when you are going in June but there is the creole tomato festival June 13-14 (its in the quarter by the french market)

There are plenty of new tours now and there are several ways to book. Your hotel should have information or when you're walking around there are tons of buildings to walk in and book.

WWII museum is really nice. Expect most of the day to be spent there. There is a great restaurant associated with the museum called American Sector. I highly recommend eating there.

Mardi Gras museum is always fun.

Burgers - Port of call on Esplanade ave.

Poboy - Parkway Tavern, near Bayou st. John (by city park)

http://jacques-imos.com/ is one of the best. Its uptown - Try the alligator cheesecake (trust me)

Meaux Bar - On Rampart st. I know the chef and she is truly amazing. The experience is top notch.

Breakfast - Ruby slipper (there is one in the CBD and one in mid city.

Oxalis - In the bywater. Very fun environment with great food.

there is live music every day. Excellent food and wine.

I've heard so many stories lately of how dangerous the French Quarter is, yes I know of the Keep the French Quarter Safe program but that was obviously started for a reason. My 23 year old daughter and a friend are going this weekend and staying at the W French Quarter, any tips. I'm a worried Mom

Has your daughter traveled on her own before? Is she street savvy and experienced in an urban area?
