New musical: Wicked on Broadway
I believe that the new musical "Wicked" previewed on October 8. Did anyone see it or has anyone heard or read anything about it.
We bought tickets for December and I'm just wondering what the initial scoop is. thanks. |
We were there on the 8th -- I can't tell you enough wonderful things about the play that will clean up at the Tony's ! It is fresh, funny, the music is outstanding, the character development full, the story line expansive, deep and allowing you to get as dee or as shallow as you are comfortable, the actors show an obvious delight in their work, the chemestry works-- the play is outstanding, and right around the corner from Ruby Foos, an outstanding choice for a fun night! Enjoy, you won't be sorry!

I believe it opened in San Francisco, I read a review in the Chronicle and it received raves. I wish I would of gotten a chance to see it while it was here.

Thanks for the responses. I'm really looking forward to seeing Wicked. I looked on-line for some written reviews (i.e. at playbill or the NYT, but didn't find any) JTP, I assume reservations are recommended for Ruby Foos. Do you think we will need them if we go after the show?
|
You will want reservations! Certainly if you are planning to eat after the show! I have been lucky only once, without a reservation, prior to a show (5:30!!!) to be seated with a 20 minute wait.

As I posted on another thread, thanks to a screw-up by Ticketmaster, my online order for tickets (great seats confirmed, incidentally) never went through, so I was unable to see the first preview on the 8th.
But I'm curious, viamar, a man I talked with the other day said that the San Francisco reviews were virtually all pans -- he used the term "they hung them out to dry". Is that true, or were the others raves as well? I do know they made a number of changes before the NYC opening, which is even why they delayed the first preview an extra night. Incidentally, last week walking through Central Park I saw a photo shoot going on with two knockout girls, one blond and one brunette in black t-shirts. Suddenly I realized their t-shirts said "WICKED" on them and then realized it was Kristin Chenowith and Idina Menzel. I must say Idina is a very pretty girl when out of her green make-up! |
The book is outstanding. I can only imaging the show is as well.
