New Mexico Itinerary - 30th anniversary
 

Hubs and I celebrating 30th anniversary in New Mexico. Have ideas of some things to do but wanted more input...we will be going a week in late September, starting in Santa Fe, traveling to Taos, and ending up in Albuquerque.

It's sorting out as follows:

Sept 23 - fly in to Albuquerque - arrive around 5 PM - go directly to Santa Fe
Sept 23- 27 - Santa Fe
Sept 27 - 29 - Taos
Sept 30-1 - Albuquerque (home morning of 10/2)

Taos: we'll probably arrive Taos later in day, want to see Pueblos and some of Taos. Do we need 2 nights? The 28th is actual anniversary. Suggestions on where to stay? local to eat?

What does "local to eat" mean? Every location in Taos is local. And the town is tiny - there's a dearth of chains (there's a McDonald's and . . . a couple of Subways.

The higher end Taos restaurants tend to have the bang/hype ratio out of whack (hence, the Apple Tree's closure).

Be sure to hit Tomasita's while in SFe.

What is price for accomodations? Hotel, B&B, motel??

You might thing of going directly to Taos, then to Santa Fe and ending in ABQ. IF you did that, 1 full day and an overnight should be enough [spend morning in Taos before heading to Santa Fe]. That would give you anniversary dinner in Santa Fe.

It makes the most sense in driving too. Start at furthest north point and work soutn.

Be sure to plan on going 10/1 to Balloon Fiesta in ABQ.

We stayed at the Inn of the Anasazi in Santa Fe and loved it. Also loved the Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, and touring O'Keeffe's house.

Bobcat Bite had some great green chili cheeseburgers in Santa Fe, but they moved and changed their name. I think the newer place is Santa Fe Bite - anyone know?

Also liked eating at The Shed and Cafe Pasqual's - all casual spots.

Thanks, Deb - is it still as good? There was something about that atmosphere.

I would rather have an anniversary dinner in Santa Fe than Taos, too, so I like Debit's revised itinerary.

The atmosphere at Santa Fe Bite is nothing like the little place on the frontage road. Food is good but it is a lot bigger and doesn't have the charm. I have to say the Green Chile Cheeseburger at Del Charro gives them a run for their money.

Santa Fe will give you more dining options and really good ones, too. I like Taos but it is very small and not many options. I like the ambiance of Doc Martin's. Old school Taos vibe. Drinks at Adobe Bar are a must-stop for us.

Lot's of options here in Santa Fe for a special dinner.

Yeah, do that.

The "top" Taos restos aren't so great that I'd schedule a major milestone dinner for them and that includes Doc Martin's. Santa Fe has a good number of very good eateries, especially considering it's just a small town with about 70K people (Taos, comparatively, is an oversized village - population 5k).
