New Mexico - Do I need a passport?
Well, do I?
April Fool!! :-d Sorry, I just couldn't help myself! |
Of course you need a passport to enter New Mexico. You don't think that they let just anyone in?
Especially when you arrive from Old Mexico. |
Thanks for reminding me of this day.

This is not an April fool story, but it does relate to New Mexico.
When the Olympics were held in Atlanta, there was great deal of provincialism peeking through the fake facade of sophistication. Someone from New Mexico called for tickets to the Olympics events; he was told that sales to people in foreign countries was forbidden. The funniest one, however, was an outgrowth of how the University of Georgia prostituted itself and totally succumbed to the dictorial, arrogant whims of the Olympic Committee. Vince Dooley, who was the athletic director, want to take some of his visitors over to Sanford Stadium where Olympic soccer matches were held. To show the extent of an almost total capitulation by UGA to the dictates of the Olympic Committee, the administration even allowed the legendary hedges to be remove to allow space for soccer. When Dooley arrived at Sanford Stadium, a place he just about owned as head coach of the Bulldogs for many years, the man at the gate greeted him with effusive remarks, etc. Then, when Dooley wanted in, he was refused entry!! Lack of proper credentials. Talk about being thrown out of your own home!! The unmitigated arrogance of the Olympic people fully manisfested itself one day when I was walking out of my office in the old women's PE building. For me, at the time, it was a temporary haven after the Brooks Hall fire drove most of the faculty of the Terry College to emergency quarters. The gymnasium in the building was used to dispense uniforms to the workers at the various venues and events. That particularly day I had on a dark blue knit shirt and khaki slacks. Some Olympic bozo stopped me and told me that because I was not an official worker at the games, I could not wear those clothes in my office. Talk about a guy who was motivated in the direction of mayhem, I will confess my guilt. |
Actually, it isn't a bad idea to take one. I had to go through Border Patrol Check Points that were within New Mexico, three times last trip.
