New McDonald's in Time Square
 

Anyone been to the big new McDonald's that's just opened in Time Square? Saw it on the news and wanted to know if its worth stopping in on my upcoming NYC trip.

If your idea of a good time traveling is going around seeking out mediocre fast food restaurants, then yes, it's probably worth it to you.<BR>Is there any reason in the world for doing this, though? Is there something special about this McDonalds?<BR><BR>I'm passing though California next month and have been wondering if it would be worth it to stop in to see the new Walmart at. . .?

The big thing about this McDonald's is that instead of the usual loud red and yellow decor, it is spare looking w/lots of riveted sheet metal on the walls and floors. Are you hoping to see examples of unusual contract design? Fine, stop in. Otherwise, It's MCDONALD's. Go if you want a burger, not for any sightseeing value

I thought it was great looking. I sometimes don't get into the theater district until 7:30 for an 8PM show and haven't had time for dinner. That McDonald's is terrific. It is clean and the design is wonderful. There is a bar with stools that spans an entire city block (width not length). Fast food it may be, but their salads are fine with a bottle of water and a coffee before a show.

If you go to Sedona, you'll find the only McDonald's with teal blue arches.<BR><BR>I have no idea why I am posting this, but somehow it seemed relevant!

Very relevant, Judy. McDonald's used to insist on all franchise haveing the sam external and internal link. As they've tried to move into more area, they discovered that some places have historic preservation and other reasons why the red/yellow look wouldn't fly, so they now allow much more variation. There's a McDonald's near Biltmore Village in Asheville NC that you'd never notice was a McD until you're up close--it looks like another brick building in the area!<BR><BR>Frank, still not quite sure what would make it "worth stopping in on my upcoming NYC trip" or not.

In the USA I never go too McDonald's since the burgers are crap.. but when I'm out of the country big macs have saved my life dozons of times... I've kind of gotten a litle thrill in checking out all the McDonald's, burger Kings and the sort all over the world and comparing them too the STATES.. for instance in THAILAND you can get a burger in McDonald's,where the bun is made out of rice..<BR><BR>JUST keeping this nonsensicle thread going..

Yes, McDonald's does alter their menu slightly to cater to the local tastes in each country. As for this new McD's in Time Square, its supposed to be the biggest one in the world.

There is a McDonald's downtown which has a grand piano (complete with pianist) and a stock ticker. Guess that qualifies as "different".
