New Las Vegas Monorail Ticket Question

FYI, I just read that the new las vegas monoral on the Strip is now up and running (well, as of yesterday). Some friends & I will be in Vegas next month for the weekend. We want to pre-order our tickets and we're debating whether to buy the 10 ride ticket for $20 or 2 1 day passes ($10 each). I vote 2 1 day passes-my friends say just get the 10 ride ticket but it doesn't matter because they're both the same price.
Silly question but which one should we choose? I'm going to order them this weekend.
Thanks!

Even better, I would get the 10 ride ticket deal for $20.00. They're good for a year.

If you get the 10 ride package and dont use them all over the weekend, you can use them at another time. If you dont expect to be in Vegas again within the next year you could do your good deed for the day and give what is left over away. I do it with phone cards all the time on vacation. Why not save someone some money since you have already spent it.

Thanks for the advice! I spoke to my buds over the weekend & we're going with the 10 ticket deal....we'll buy them in Vegas. I might be going to another show in October so I will still have use for any that I may have left.
Thanks again! :)

Just to pile on...who knows how tickets work for the monorail? I would anticipate that this thing is not manned (or womaned for those who care). Is there an attendant at each stop?

We're heading to Vegas this coming weekend, and I'll report back next week. If you want to e-mail me directly in case I forget, [email protected]

Just rode the monorail this past weekend. You buy the ticket(s) of your choice from a machine near the entrance, then slip it into a slot at the gate to the terminal; it spits it back and you hang on to it if it's a multiride ticket, and away you go. There was an attendant hanging around near the entrance at one or two of the stops, but not all of them.
We only rode it for one roundtrip, because the ride was slow and jerky and there are nowhere near enough seats or handrails; and because all you can see from the monorail as you ride are giant parking lots. Why on earth didn't they place it somewhere more scenic?? At $3 one-way (I know, less if you buy a book of tickets), it's disappointing. We came to prefer taking cabs, which was cheaper for a group of 5 anyway.

E - Your last sentence basically was the answer to your question about why the monorail wasn't put in a scenic place....THE TAXI-CAB UNIONS!!!!!

They have had a stronghold in Vegas for years! Duh! They have fought the building of a monorail down the middle of the strip for years! And, obviously, they won and it's now located on the backside and is nowhere near as convenient as a cabride (the monorail drops you into the BACK of the casino and you have to walk inside the hotel to get to the casino). Also, the same unions are the reason why WE customers have to pay $$ for the monorail at all. All the casinos have enough $$ to build the monorail (which they did) and they all had the money to run the maintenance every year.... but they had to concede to the taxi unions and charge for the monorail, otherwise, then EVERYONE would forego the cabs and just do the monorail.

Just got back from Vegas, spent 15-18 July at Bellagio. We did not use the monorail once, saw it twice while walking around. It is not in a convenient location and to us did not seem to be a timesaver at all. Do not purchase tickets prior to getting to Vegas as you may find it is not an option for you at all.

Question: Now that the fee-based monorail is up and running, do they still offer the free monorail from Mandalay Bay-Luxor-Excalibur and/or Monte Carlo-Bellagio? Thanks!

DOCK Jul 21st, 2004 03:07 PM

Monorail between Mandalay and Luxor is still operational and we did use it. I did not see any between Bellagio and Monte Carlo and I would have used it if I did see it becos it was quite a hike in the heat.

Thanks for the info. Dock. We decided to wait and see if we want to invest in tickets for the monorail. I thought it ran down the main Strip....oh well.

If you go to www.lvmonorail.com you can see exactly where it is.

The train between Bellagio and MC shut down about a year ago due to the construction at Bellagio. I believe it will be back eventually
