Cross the Hudson on the Tappan-Zee if you want to avoid NYC. Then take I84 through Hartford to the MA tpke in sturbridge. Take the tpke to the Allston-Brighton exit just outside Boston.

go to www.mapquest.com

"gc" makes a good suggestion. If sittign in stalled ort slow traffic aggravates you, spend the extra time upfront and follow that route. The only alternative I'm familiar with involves taking NJ Turnpike to the GW bridge and then the Cross-Bronx Expressway to head for points north. The CBE has never been a great road but this summer there's lots of construction on it and delays are worse than ever.

The other posters gave good advice. However, the last time I crossed the Tappan Zee heading north, there was a lot of construction just past the toll booths and at the 287 turn-off.

But whether you choose that route or the GW Bridge, here are some do's and don'ts:

1. Avoid making the trip on Fri. if you can. The traffic is brutal all day, and gets worse as the day wears on, espeically in the summer.

2. Try to time your trip so that you're out of the NY metro area before 3 pm and not going through Hartford (on I-84) at rush hour.

3. Think about getting EZ Pass, if you don't already have it. It can make the trip a little faster and easier.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Any idea on the drive time, 4-5 hours or so depending on traffic?
Thanks Again!
