New Jersey area with kids

Hello! A good friend (along with her husband and 6 yr old son) will be staying in South Plainfield NJ for 8 nights in June. They will have a rental car and are willing to drive to see area attractions. What are some must-see attractions that you recommend for a family? Thank you!

There are tons of things to do with a 6 yr. old in New Jersey...Here are a few....6 Flags Great Adventure (Jackson), A day at the beach (Spring Lake or any other shore town), the Boardwalk at Point Pleasant, Liberty Science Center (Jersey City), Field Station Dinosaurs (Secaucus), NJ Adventure Aquarium (Camden)

I agree with all the above suggestions! Of course, a day trip into NYC might also be nice, but I'd leave the car behind and take the train.

A few more - Allaire State Park - which has a steam train ride and nice picnic grounds. Barnegat Light State Park - which has a great view from the top of the lighthouse, a nice beach, and a fun fishing spot.

I haven't been to either recently, but Bowcraft www.bowcraft.com and Land of Make Believe www.lomb.com should be good for a six year old, and are cheaper and more interesting (in a forgotten Roadside America kind of way) than Great Adventure.

Thanks, everyone! I'll pass along all of your ideas.
