I emailed these new hotels to ask them to list with Trip Advisor. I have received an email from one, The Chamberlin Inn, saying they will be listed in a week and thanking me for the email. Thinking this may be the best place to stay of the 3.

We stayed the night at the AmericInn Suites or something like that, and had an acceptable bbq dinner at the restaurant in the same parking lot. It wasn't glamorous but it was fine. They even put a little prayer on our pillow with a turn-down service. I'm not religious, but it was nice, ya know?

Just back from a whirlwind weekend in Montana & Wyoming. I originally made plans to stay at the Legacy Inn in Cody, but I was disappointed by the location after we arrived. I enjoy walking and the Legacy Inn was a little too far out of town to walk to the local restaurants. Across from the Legacy Inn was a large number of fast food restaurants - McDonalds, KFC, etc. - not really the atmosphere I was looking for. We decided to look at the pool before making a decision on whether we stay or go. The pool was on the property of an adjacent older hotel behind the laundry room. There was dirt floating on the surface of the pool. We ended up driving down to Sheridan Avenue to see if we could find other accomodations. Our first stop was the Holiday Inn. They had a room available so we took it and cancelled the Legacy Inn. There was a Hell's Angel World Conference being held in Cody so I was happy to get a room.
I was happy with the HDI location. It was a 10 minute walk to the Hotel Irma, where we caught the gunfight and stayed for dinner. There was a nice pool in the courtyard of the hotel surrounded by a large grassy area. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the Legacy Inn, but it just wasn't the right place for my family. Since you are looking for a "special place" it probably wouldn't be right for you, either. |
Thanks, wtm! Would you mind looking at the website of the Chamberlin and give me your opinion on the hotel and especially the location http://www.chamberlininn.com/. I would like a location where we could walk around town, too. Unfortunatley, the HI is booked on the days we'll be there. Thanks!

It's me again. I went to the Chamberlin Inn website and if I was travelling without kids that would be my pick for a "special place". The location is great. If it is as nice as the photos, I think you'll be happy. Hopefully, you will get some feedback.
The Legacy Inn was not any more special than say a Comfort Inn - not that there is anything wrong with that - it just doesn't seem like that is what you are looking for. |
LoL, you are an EXCELLENT mind reader and a wonderful Fodorite! Thanks so much!! :)
|
BTW, wtm, I hope you post a trip report. Would love to hear what else you did and how you enjoyed your trip. Thanks, again!

WOW!!
I just went to the Chamerlin's web site- that is my idea of a hotel. I drove by with my friend, and as I recall it was not yet open. The location is good, close to shops but not on a busy street. WTM, I am impressed that you were there at the same time as the Hell's Angel's crowd, heard there was a huge law enforcement presence! How did it seem in the town? My friend there was dreading the HA's visit, and encouraged me to visit either before or after! There were lots of bikers in Cody when we were there, but more Harley types than Hell's Angels. |
Okay, I finally made our reservations. Went with Chamberlin Inn, room 28. Slight concern about the room having a shower only, since I love relaxing tub baths, but the reservationist recommended this room because of the size and view.

Hi Dogkarma, it was actually kind of interesting with all the Hell's Angels in town. We had fun looking at their jackets to see where they were from - France, Germany, Croatia, etc. There was a group at the rodeo and were very polite when they thought they were in my way. It looked like a couple of the bars and restaurants were packed with bikers, so I bet the owners weren't complaining.
You'll have to find out what your friend thought. Overall, I thought it made our visit to Cody more interesting. Yes, there was a large law enforcement presence. One group of officers were dressed in olive green pants and polo shirts with special forces written on their sleeves. I'm not sure where that group was from but they were BIG guys. They came into the Irma while we were eating dinner and I overheard a waitress say that the Irma had been feeding them all week. I'm sure those guys didn't mind hitting the prime rib buffet all week. Bayougal, I'll be interested in hearing about the Chamberlin Inn after your visit. |
My friend sent me a link from the Cody paper about the HA's visit. I guess the citizens of Cody are breathing sighs of relief this week!
I can't get the link to work,so check out www.codyenterprise.com the story is on the home page. |
Dogkarma, thanks for the interesting link. I had no idea the HA's were going to be there during our trip. Seriously, I thought they looked like a bunch of old men trying to relive their glory days. Too bad the residents had to put up with some very bad behavior, to say the least!

I received an email from Carol at Chamberlin Inn. They are now listed on Trip Advisor. Carol is most helpful in describing the details of each room and the Inn. Plus she said they are in the process of upgrading their website. Sounds like they are really on the ball there and are well on their way to making this a top-notch lodging destination.
Dogkarma, I believe you are absolutely right . . . this new hotel is something special. Now I wish we could stay in Cody even longer!:) |
Okay, the more I see and read about this new hotel, The Chamberlin Inn, the more I like it. I have a feeling it won't be long before you have to book here a year in advance, just like you do now for the national parks. It seems to be head and shoulders above every other lodging in that area.

The Chamberlin Inn is just lovely. Staying there now. Nicely renovated, sophistocated, but very homey feel. Has common sitting rooms on both floors. Very low key (at least in April) and right in the middle of things. Such as "things" are in Cody :-) Rooms decent size for a boutique hotel with nice linens, towels etc. Lovely outdoor area to the side. Lots of options in this town, but for a little extra money from the basic places yu cannot go wrong here.
