New Hope? Your suggestions, please!
 

Hi all,
I will be taking my 2 children to Sesame Place Aug 4. I am looking for some suggestions of things (relatively low-key) do to for Sunday. Thought about New Hope. Is it appropriate for children? My daughters enjoy shopping (Woodstock and village-y type places). We have been to the zoo and aquarium in Phila, the crayola factory, etc. so I am looking for something different. Longwood Garndens? too boring for kids?

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

New Hope and Lambertville ( a walk or drive across the river) are great for low-key shopping but can be very crowded. They are both lovely with lots of "crafty" places and boutiques. Lambertvill has loads of antiques. I am not if sure the kids will enjoy that, but they are both village-y.
If you are into museums, the Philadelphia Art Museum is wonderful- with lots of displays the kids will really love.(knights in armor, recreated plazas, ancient artifacts, too much to name but you can google it and see). There is also the Franklin Institue in Philadelphia. You can check out the I-Max that is there and see what's playing. There is also the Academy of Natural Science, an interesting museum.
Longwood gardens is beautiful but I am not sure if the kids will enjoy acres of gardens and fountains. There are several ponds that are enchanting.
If you are in Philadelphia, Fairmount Park has lovely gardens and historic mansions you can tour. On the Phildadelphia waterfront at Penn's Landing area, there are a few ships to see and visit as well a a museum, but I did not think the museum was that great.
And if you cross into Camden,New Jersey, there is the battleship New Jersey, and the aquarium is next to that.

It will be hot and probably quite crowded. New Hope has lots of shops, a number of them interesting, but I am not sure that they are of the type that will attract kids of an age that would enjoy Sesame Place. There is a nice toy store there and a great Ice cream parlor. The boat ride on the river could be nice. There are some pleasant nearby bike paths and I think that you can also rent some bikes. There is also a steam locomotive scenic trip that might be attractive to you.

Generally agree with others about NH and Longwood, however ...

Longwood does have special children's programs that might do the trick:

Longwood = could be boring.

Village type shopping is the focus of Lahaska (Peddler's Village) plus there are some outlets and good food places nearby.

If the weather is favorable, how about tubing/drifting down the Delaware? I think it is still offered at Pt. Pleasant, PA.

In Philadelphia, our kids never tire of the Franklin Institute (and the grand parents like it too.)

Also in Philadelphia; how about a tour of the Mural Art? If interested, check out the website which has a map of the locations. It works well with lunch at the Redding Terminal Market.

On sunday you could go to www.peddlersvillage.com it's about 20 minute from New Hope. They have great shops and restaurants. They have a section called giggleberry an indoor play area for kids. Check out the web site I think it will have something for everyone. Across the street is an outlet mall.

You might look at some of the sites downtown Philly, see the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross's home, Ben Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Zoo (which is not far from downtown), or for shopping, Franklin Mills would take a full day to explore. Lots of sales right now on kids back to school stuff too.
