Planning on spending a weekend in New Hope.
We understand it's a nice small town with alot of art gallerys. Has anyone been there and if so what's your opinion.
Also looking for recommendations on where to stay and where to dine.

It is a very nice town and Lambertville is across the river which is also great. I'm sorry- not sure of good restaurants and places to stay, but there a ton of B and B's around there.

Very charming, loads of galleries and shops but extremely touristy. So prices are high and it can be crowded.
But I still enjoyed myself every time we went there, as I am sure you will too!
Go to Lambertville and look at the antique stores!!

Some people really like New Hope and find it charming, but I'm not one of them. I find it so touristy that it borders on tacky, the shops are overpriced and there's little there that you can't find elsewhere. When Tom Hanks was in the area to film "Philadelphia" he told Philadelphia magazine that he loved the city but "you can keep New Hope."

I haven't been there in ages, but there was an icecream shop that specialized n unusual flavors(Ukrainian rose petal,anisette, etc).I dream of returning to that shop and having lots of samples.

Used to go there antiquing in the 80's. Haven't been recently. I think Lambertville may be nicer to stay. A bit of trivia- the Stockton Inn in Stockton is supposedly the hotel in the song "there's a small hotel with a wishing well..." I've had brunch there-it's ok, nothing special & not suggesting you stay there. It feels a bit more like a motel than a hotel.

As mentioned, New Hope is a nice small town that can get very crowded on weekends. Lambertville is right across the bridge (walking distance) and they have lots of antique shops and restaurants. Many years ago, I stayed at Chimney Hill Farm in Lambertville. It was nice then, but looks even nicer now. Here is there website. http://www.chimneyhillinn.com/. There is also another hotel right on the corner on Bridge Street in Lambertville that looks nice. I stopped in once to check it out. I think it is called the Lambertville Hotel. I have eaten at several restaurants in Lambertville that I like. If you like sushi, there is Ota-Ya. I recently ate at No.9 Restaurant, which is right across the parking lot from Ota-Ya. I believe they are both BYOBs. I can't remember if I've had dinner in New Hope. I have had lunch there many times. There are several places to have lunch outside, which is nice. Havana is good and usually crowded. There is also The Landing which has a nice location overlooking the river. While in the New Hope area, you may want to check out Peddlers Village, which is up the road about 10 minutes. They also have nice little shops and a couple of places to eat. They have a nice hotel up there as well called the Golden Plough. Hope this info helps. Enjoy your stay.

There was just an article on New hope in I think todays edition of the Baltimore Sun.

That is the hotel where we had lunch last summer, it was very nice and fun to sit in the room with all the windows and watch the parade of people go by~
I (not really a ghoul) enjoyed looking at tombstones in the old cemetary :)

To Btlike, someone also had written on there gravestone, "I would rather be here than in "Philadelphia." (W.C.Fields was it?) Brandessa, I live in Bucks County outside of New Hope. It is extremley touristy as mentioned but still a lovely place to spend a weekend. There is ample shopping, great people watching, a small playhouse, to see a play. There is a train ride which will take you all over the countryside. There is an old Barge ride, with mules. (Very nostalgic.) It has some gorgeous scenery, and wonderful restaurants. One of our favorites Outside of New Hope on 202 is The Inn at Philips Mill. It is county french, the ambiance is just wonderful and out of this world with great food.($$$) It is a BYOB as well. In New Hope Mothers is great, Karlas I like, The Logan Inn has been done over and it is has a nice ambiance to it as well. There is also the Stockton Inn on the Jersey side. Many eateries in Lambertville. For accomodations I am at a loss, but I know there are ample B&B's. There are also several wineries to visit in the surrounding areas. As mentioned there is Peddlers Village not far away with many shops and restaurants and worth a visit. You don't mention when you would be coming but Bucks County is beautiful any time of the year. I have been to New Hope many times and I am actually going there tomorrow for the day. It is not far from where I live. The shops are cute and have things that you do not see everywhere else. Lambertville which is across the brige in NJ has antique shops. I like eating at a little B & B that has a restaurant called the Phillips Mill Inn. It is on 32 North which is River Road about 3 miles from New Hope. The Woolverton Inn in Lambertville is a nice B & B to stay at. Also the Stockton Inn has nice rooms. It does get crowded but it is a fun weekend.
