New England trip

My family and I will be travelling to Boston in two weeks. I plan to stay there for 3 nights but can't decide what to do after that. We have 7 more nights and we were thinking maybe the Cape. My husband doesn't like to switch hotels and would like to base out of one location. Any suggestions? The Cape, Marthas Vineyard, Newport?????
Thanks

You didn't mention when?

In two weeks.

June 11 plus 2 weeks plus 3 days in Boston equals (11+14+3=) June 28, which is the Thursday before July 4th (which is the following Wednesday). This is the official beginning of Summer in the Boston/Cape Cod area, so you might find it difficult to get good reservations, especially over that first weekend.

Just sending this to the top, so it doesn't get mixed up with the earlier identical post that was accidentally included in the Alaska searches.

You don't mention budget considerations and that would impact where we might suggest you stay.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to rent a cottage/house/condo since you won't be on the Cape or MV from Saturday to Saturday. You might get lucky finding a condo owner at Ocean Edge in Brewster who has a last minute opening and would welcome your stay. Try searching on www.weneedavacation.com or Atlantic Realty's site (sorry I don't have it).

I might recommend staying at the resort part of Ocean Edge (although it won't be cheap) so that you can base yourself in the middle of Cape Cod and be able to enjoy the beach, bike trail and pools while also accessing Ptown, National Seashore, Chatham, etc.

We can all provide more info if you can give us budget ideas and whether you are just two or a family.

One place for all 10 nights? The most central to Cape, Boston, and Newport would be Bourne, or the Sandwich or Falmouth areas for a more "touristy" feel.

As the above post says, if you are traveling the week of July 4th, weekend traffic will be horrific. In that case, you may want to plan on spending 3 nights each in 3 different hotels, closer to your destinations. For example, three nights in Boston, three nights in Newport, and three nights in Chatham or Nantackut.

You also might consider exploring north of Boston for one leg, some place such as Rockport, MA, Portsmouth, NH, or Kennebunkport, ME.

I believe this poster is traveling with two teens. Perhaps if you clarify some of your preferences, others can be more specific. But you'd better get some reservations fast, if you're interested in any of the resort-y types of places.

If I were trying to get reservations in Boston around the Fourth of July, I think I'd start with Priceline (booking two rooms) . Read up on BiddingForTravel.com before using.

Best wishes for a great trip! Let's keep our fingers crossed for the weather.
