New England/ Lowell, Mass
 

My husband and I are planning a road trip to Vermont (Burlington) to see a minor league baseball game and then travel to Lowell, Mass to do the same. We are going to spend 2 days in each location and Burlington won't be a problem, but I am having a little difficulty planning something to do in Lowell, other than the baseball game. Anybody have some suggestions?

There is a National Park in Lowell, focusing on the textile industry. It is very interesting and do sign up for the ranger led boat trip on the canal. Go to www.nps.gov and click on MA for more information.

Depending on which way you are driving between the 2, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats play in between. Check their schedule. Its AA, rather than A.

Have you thought about Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA or travelling a little bit farther to Concord.

Lowell has museums, parks, and local festivals. It's noted for it's summer music series and festivals, especially it's folk festival. But there are film, quilt, Kerouac, diverse cultural, and water festivals as well.

Where are you traveling from?

If you are not familiar with the region, there are many towns nearby Lowell that would be well worth visiting depending on your interests.

Third the suggestion of visiting the National Historic Park. The textile mills are very interesting. During summer, they also offer boat tours in the canal locks plus other tours. Some require reservation in advance. See this for details:

I'll fourth the Lowell National Historic Park. Very interesting historic based exhibits, especially the Boott Cotton Mills Museum (a recreated textile mill) and the Mill Girls and Immigrants Exhibit (a reconstructed boarding house).

There are also a couple unusual nearby museums, most notably the New England Quilt Museum (small but has some good items) and the American Textile History Museum (another history museum with a slightly offbeat focus).

Depending on your interests and how thorough you want to be, you can spend a full sightseeing day in this city.
