New England getaway with children
We live in Vermont and are looking for a beacy-type of place to go with a 3 year old and a 4 month old. Our primary concern is having some fun things for our very active toddler to do, in addition to running all over the beach. Any suggestions?

You're looking for something for the summer, right? As opposed to a Florida-type trip right now???
www.lighthouseinn.com A great place on Cape Cod with nice childrens' supervised events and meals. |
York Beach in Maine is popular with families in our area. Short sands is near the Nubble lighthouse and downtown area. There's a playground, grassy park area, benches along the sidewalk overlooking the beach. I'm not sure if I could recommend the amusement park and wild animal park since it seems to have seen better days. The long walk up to the Nubble with a stop for ice cream helps tire kids out but you probably want to have yours in a stroller. Everyone is fascinated watching the saltwater taffy machine in the window. Small children don't usually get bored with beach play. It ought to be a great vacation. Place your blanket near another family with toddlers and watch them get acquainted.

Check out Morningside Cottages in the Adirondacks (New York state). Here is their web site http://www.morningsidecamps.com/index1.html
It is a GREAT place for little kids. Nice beach, shallow water, no motor boat lake (great for first time row boat or kayak ride), beautiful woods with easy trails, just about guaranteed playmates etc. The cottages are very nice too. It is booked up very solid - however new people often get in on a cancellation. (You'll get on a waiting list.) We've been going for 16 years! If you need further information, let me know! |
Thanks so much, Everyone! You've given us some things to research!
