NEW ENGLAND -- 4 DAYS?

My family is taking a cruise of new england/canada
the last part of September out of Boston. We plan
on spending about four days after the cruise seeing
what we can of new england (Bar Harbour is included
on the cruise). Any suggestions????
Shanna

There's lots to see in the Boston Area and I also recommend Cape Cod. WE also liked Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket but a lot to do in such a short time. I would say a side trip from Boston to Newport R.I. (not that far away) is a must. Some wonderful Mansions (former Summer Homes of the rich) can be toured and were the highlight of many of our trips to New England. We weren't all that impressed with Bar Harbor but were glad we saw it after hearing about it for years. Liked other places much better. Have a great trip.

If you answer two questions, I think we can give you much more useful answers.

1) does your "four days in New England" include any time in Boston. I could spend a week there without a bit of boredom!! If Boston is included in your four days, then I would recommend not leaving there.

2) what type of things are you hoping to experience? History? Beaches? Mountain scenery? Architecture? Quaint small towns? Culture? Cuisine?

Before we can advise where to find what you are looking for, it would help us (and you!) if we knew exactly what it is you're looking for.

I agree that Newport, RI is a must - what a neat place! We took a sailboat ride in the harbor (1hr. 15min.), saw the Breakers mansion (the biggest), walked the Cliff walk and ate and shopped a little at the Harbor area (charming) all in one day with a 3yr. old & 5 mo. old! I would recommend doing all those things! We are from the midwest, never been to New England and were disappointed with Cape Cod. Been to the Carribean too many times I guess, just not impressed except for some of the historic areas of some of the neater towns like Sandwich, Chatham, Falmouth & WoodsHole. York Harbor, ME is a charming town at the southern end of ME where we stayed and enjoyed and saw the Nubble Light House which is beautiful - if you didn't get enough of ME on the cruise.

Hi-what ship are you taking out of Boston? There is the Majesty that I am more than familiar with, but that goes to Bermuda and I know the Norweigan Sky will be doing 10 days out of Boston to Canada-haven’t heard the itinerary yet for next year...

Sept./October wonderful time...You could spend the time in Boston. Cape Cod is a zoo—you might enjoy taking boat to Nantucket or Marthas Vinyard or going to Newport....
