New combined airline airfare site
 

I didn't write down the new site that a number of airlines have their combined specials. Help me and other Fodorites to get the web site address. Thanks.

You may be thinking of Hotwire.com - it's owned by five major airlines and works in a manner akin to priceline.com but with one major advantage. Like Priceline, you cannot choose the time of day at which you travel (only the day itself) and you cannot choose which airline. Unlike Priceline, you don't bid blindly and hope you didn't bid too high (meaning you may have overpaid. Hotwire gives you their lowest price and you have 15 minutes to decide. If you decline, you must wait 24 hours before requesting new pricing from them for that exact same trip/date. I've checked them for comparison purposes on 5-7 occasions. 80% of the time they were 25-50% less than the best fare I could get direct or from Cheaptickets, Expedia etc. - the remaining times they were the same or higher. Some folks check Hotwire for the lowest price and then bid 20% less on Priceline - might be a techinique worth trying.

Orbitz website OFFICIALLY is now open and available for use. <BR>However, there is already much controversy about the fares not being much of a bargain. <BR>Always compare any fares you see with at least one other (the actual airline's website) and one of the multiple search websites such as Expedia, Hotwire, Farechase, Qixo, etc. <BR>Never accept the first fare as the lowest fare available although I've 'read' that Orbitz' LAST MINUTE fares are good. <BR>Compare -- compare -- compare !

You can get some good rates at hotwire.com, but, if it means anything, you do not get frequent flyer miles.
