New chocolate bar opening.

As I was wondering around the village on Sunday, I passed a new "Chocolate Bar" opening on Broadway between 13th and 14th St, and it looks really yummy, just looking in the window. The name was Max (something) but it looks like at least some of the chocolate is made on site. It opens on July 29th and I will make a jont down to check out the place and do a little review. Chocolate bars are always welcome by me,,,,,,,,

WSS,
Go check it out for me and see if it's worth the calories :D

Absolutely and will let you know but have to admit, my moto is "Give me Chocolate or get the heck out of my way". Chocolate is ALWAYS worth the calories. I also believe that when you are on vacation, there are no calories in desert.

Did I miss something - does chocolate have calories?

seetheworld Jul 25th, 2006 03:23 AM

"I also believe that when you are on vacation, there are no calories in desert"

That's an absolute fact, WSS! In fact, I had a chocolate lunch during my vacation -- it was heaven. :D

Please check the place out and report back.

STW, Your fellow chocolate addict. :)

Oh, geez. Y'all don't know? If you drink a Diet Coke with the chocolate it takes all the calories away from the chocolate.

Just a little tip that is good to know :-)

Yup, that's what it is (Max Brenner Chocolates by the Bald Guy) and it's opening this Thursday. Another is opening in the E. VIllage. It is an Isreali chain that has several stores in AUstralia as well and is expanding. These are the 1st US stores.

so maybe someone should organize a fodor's gtg at locations around the world :D

Jibboo Jul 25th, 2006 07:52 AM

I walk by there all the time and honestly it looks like just anohter overpriced tourist trap.

jlm_mi Jul 25th, 2006 08:29 AM

How can a chocolate shop that isn't even open yet look like an overpriced tourist trap? What does an overpriced tourist trap chocolate shop even look like, as opposed to a high quality, low-priced chocolate shop that locals love?

tuscanlifeedit Jul 25th, 2006 12:50 PM

Are we talking about the Second Ave location as the EV location? What's the cross street? How soon can I get there????????????????

P_M Jul 25th, 2006 01:24 PM

Our poster moldyhotelsaregross mentioned a place in Houston called The Chocolate Bar. I am planning to to go the Houston GTG on 9/9, and nobody....I mean NOBODY had better get between me and The Chocolate Bar that weekend. Come hell, high water, or hurricane, I WILL find the Chocolate Bar!! >:o

In case anyone is interested, here's the scoop in chocolate in TX:

Tuscan, yes the EV location is at 141 2nd avenue (not the former 2nd av deli location, i checked that!). I'm not sure when that one is openin but I walk by the B'way one everyday and the sign says tomorrow.

If you're into handmade Belgian pralines, check out Leonidas, there's one on Madison Ave midtown and one downtown somewhere. I first went to their shop in Amsterdam and found out that they had shops in NYC.

wantsomesun Jul 26th, 2006 02:10 PM

Yup that's the name I couldn't remember it, all I could remember was CHOCOLATE.......

I thought it was opening next week, but I will head downtown tomorrow and check it out. A full report will be made just as soon as I get home.

Anyone want to meet up there tomorrow?

wantsomesun Jul 26th, 2006 02:11 PM

Oh and when I order desert on vacation, I order it without calories,,,,

seetheworld Jul 26th, 2006 02:29 PM

Oh, that sounds tempting wantsomesun, but I don't know my way around the village!

BayouGal Jul 26th, 2006 02:30 PM

How long's this thread been around?? Seems like a week or more, because every time I see it, I get a horrendous craving for a chocolate bar with almonds! :-D

Brookside Jul 26th, 2006 02:42 PM

Oh goodness, first the coffee thread, now chocolate!

Reminds me though: If any of you choco-holics are ever in Chicago, the chocolate bar at the Peninsula Hotel is to die for. It's open only on weekends, and it's a bit expensive, but fun and did I mention deliceous? White hot chocolate. Chocolate dipped orange slices. Rasberry truffles.

'Scuse me while I wipe the drool from my keyboard ...

wantsomesun Jul 26th, 2006 08:20 PM

The location is not really "in" the village. It's on Broadway between 13th and 14th, across the street from the Regal Movie Theatre and a half block from Union Square.

I'm heading down tomorrow night for a movie and a something chocolate, will let you guys know what the place is like.
