Never Been To Martha Vineyard
 

We are thinking of taking a trip in late July to the North East. Thinking of Massachusetts/Martha's Vineyard area. Does anyone have any sugestions of where to stay? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you,

In order to get over to Marthas Vineyard, you have to take a ferry. If you are taking a car, that can go on the ferry also, but you have to book wway in advance. You might have a bit of trouble at this late date.
We stayed in Oak Bluffs.
We have also stayed at a friends house, but that was way out on a lonely road, so that is no help to you at all :)

Very pricey, very busy, and not simple to get too affordably in July. You could fly there and use public transportation. You could fly into Providence or Boston, rent a car and try to get it on a ferry over. Or you could leave the car at the ferry station and take yourselves over, paying to park and then using public transportation or rent a very expensive second rental on island. Once you figure out the best choice check back for more. Edgartown is a good choice for lodging. Good luck!

Read the thread entitled "Cape Cod Trip Report." I talk about my recent trip to Cape Cod that included a 2-day, 1-night sojourn to Martha's Vineyard. We rented a car in Vineyard Haven, the town where the steamship from Woods Hole docks. Don't fool with trying to take your own car or a rental car over on the steamship. You can simply take the steamship as a pedestrian and then rent a vehicle on MV. The rate for our rental car on MV was reasonably close to what we would have had to pay to transport our rental car from Cape Cod over to MV.

Try booking lodging on Martha's Vineyard on Expedia. We found a nice rate at Colonial Inn in Edgartown, a hotel that is on Water Street with a nice view of the harbor from the upper levels of the hotel.

If you are flying in you'd be best off flying directly to Martha's Vineyard. Otherwise, if you are driving you need to get ferry reservations for your car well in advance.

Edgartown is probably the best town for you to stay in.
