Never been out east

Early this fall my boyfriend and I would like to fly to Maine, eat the best and freshest seafood, drink fine wine and hang out on the warf or dock for a couple of days. Any suggestions as to a town? a hotel? restaurants? A tad upscale would be o.k. because this will be our only vacation this year

Hey there, fly to Bangor, rent a car, and drive to St. Andrews in New Brunswick Canada. It is a beautiful sea town, lots of fish, and your US dollar will go far. $1 USD is worth $1.62 Canadian. You will get the same atmosphere, same coast line and pay half the price. I am telling you to fly within the US intirly though, because it is cheaper, there are a lot more airlines in the US to make it worth the 3 hour drive to New Brunswick.

Early fall--is that after Labor Day? I would fly into Manchester, New Hampshire, or Portland, Maine. I would do some research, if I were you, on York, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport (Cape Porpoise too), Portland on up. Cape Elizabeth is lovely too.

Camden Maine, look into the Maine Stay Inn (www.mainestay.com) We have fallen in love with Camden and the Maine Stay. The inn is 2 blocks from the harbor so you walk to dinner each night.

Boothbay Harbor!

Dine at Andrew's Harborside, and the Rocktide. And don't miss Boothbay Harbor Ice Cream Factory (right behind Ben n Jerry's!)

Thanks again for your replies. We're checking out all of the suggestions for inns and restaurants and now it's getting difficult. I'll have more questions I'm sure. We're thinking now, maybe mid-September for a couple of days.
