Neue Gallery-NYC

I have just become aware of this museum and want to visit. How big a museum is it and approximately how long to view the exhibits-an average time?

Haven't yet been myself but many Fodors' posters have raved about the Viennese pastry selection in the Cafe.

It's actually a pretty small collection, but very well curated, and I think it's a beautiful museum. The Otto Dix exhibit there now is supposed to be terrific - we have plans to go soon. The Klimts are wonderful. Depending on your interest, an average viewing time . . . well it could be 10 minutes or it could be 2 hours . . .

I agree with mp's assessment. A private dinner there sounds wonderful! We always eat in the cafe as part of a visit, a little piece of Austria in the middle of NYC.

It's not that big at all. I'd say an hour for the "casual" museum-goer. 2 hours if you're into that particular period of Austrian & German art. It also depends on whether some of the galleries would be closed for exhibition installation.

Will echo the rest here and say it's a small museum, and a couple hours should be fine. For me, it's one of the better small NYC museums -- maybe not the equal of the Frick and the admission charge is a little high, but still well worth visiting.

You can view the collection on-line:

Perhaps if you are fortunate they will serve you a piece of apple strudel for desert!

Have fun!

I have viewed the collection online. I am excited about it, but I couldn't tell how extensive each exhibit is. Have you viewed the gallery shop. I think I will do my shopping there and then check into the Plaza (just kidding). Anybody that can pay $200 for an apron should not have occasion to wear it. Her cook should wear it. Thanks for the help.
