Thanks neopatrick! I have to say, I really respect your advice. I have followed alot of your trip reports and so much, have wished I was in your place. Still, with this one, I think I'll just end up renting with either radio city apartments or affinia and I think once we are there, then we'll look at said buildings I've contacted and am interested in maybe for a summer visit. Haven't been to NY for awhile and it's the first time with my husband (last time I was still single) so I want it to be special and don't want the added worry of all this illegal/legal stuff. How I wish I had the guts to rent though. The one I sent you looked really good and could get it for $285/night for the new years rates. I want to make the effort but scared from all the responses so this time, I'll stick to the two recommended to be "safe".
When the time comes closer, can I pick your brain for places to eat?
Thanks for responding.
If anyone has

I found this site to find out if a building is a condo or not:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dob/html/cer...actsheet.shtml
Look to the right and pick the borough, put in the address, and then read the results. You can also read recent building complaints, etc.
I found that the building I rented an apartment in is not a condo. I'll post this on that other thread as well. I still don't know if it makes a difference if they are condos or not...

Hi Rhea,
Do you mean Lee was admitted to the hospice just a few days ago (Jan 5/09)? I've looked for a post from NP about this but I haven't seen any, though I haven't been on here as much as usual lately.
NP, if you're reading this, please know that I send you and Lee my very best wishes and hopes for a turnaround in his health. You two are one of the most loving couples I 'know'.

Lee passed away peacefully at 11:20 PM last evening, June 6, 2009.
All this outpouring of kindness is so overwhelming. I will read through them all very soon.
Thank you so much.
A quiet, peaceful end to such a wonderful story.

Condolences Patrick. I feel I know you both after reading your many entertaining reports. No one could have been kinder to Lee than you were. Later I hope all those happy years together will comfort you.

NeoPatrick, my heart goes out to you in losing Lee. Your loving care for him has been an inspiration to me. My mother in law moved in with us 18 months ago when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and it has been journey.
I've been wanting to thank you for your wonderful NY thread. On 1/3/09, I spent my 55th birthday in NYC and your advice helped make it the best of my life! I spent the day at MOMA enjoying the VanGogh and Miro exhibits, then wandered through Central Park taking photographs.
Dinner was at Bond 45 with my daughter Kelly (who lives in Broadstairs, Kent, England), her British boyfriend Peter, and Seymour,my college roommate, a stage manager who lives in Queens. (I live in Hickory, NC.) The waiter asked if we would be going to the theatre, and made sure we weren't late. The kids had a white pizza - really delicious. Seymour had a filet and seemed to enjoy it. I had the fish (sole) in a pot, and it was quite good. I have to admit that that pizza was my favorite. Amy Pohler, Rachel Dratch and Kirsten Wigg (Saturday Night Live) were in the ladies room downstairs after dinner, which was a treat for me. Very friendly, just girls in the ladies room.
We saw August Osage County and it was a thrill for me to see such perfection onstage. I had several family members represented in the story, as I'm sure many in the audience did also! I'll not soon forget the experience.
I hope I can make this an annual birthday celebration!
I'm truly grateful to you for your advice, NeoPatrick.
I wish you peace and a comfort in having shared such love with Lee.

NeoPatrick,
I read your trip report before going to New York on Feb. 15-18, but did not get to the end- I have just finished reading and have to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I feel as though I have known you and Lee from your report and excellent advice. I took copious notes and found myself telling my husband- "and Patrick said..." We loved Maria Pia and Roberto Passon's. You are a beautiful example for others, I pray that your memories of your trips and the good times give you peace and comfort. God Bless.
