Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa
I was thinking of taking my husband there for his 50th birthday. He wants to be pampered. We live in NJ and it is a 5-6 hour drive. We can tie it in with Fallingwater (we have the picture in our bedroom). Any comments on the resort???

By the way Nemacolin is in Pennsylvania
|
It's a great place, very nice, lots to do, great spa services, good food. If you search www.washingtonian.com you'll find more info. (it's one of their recommended wekend getaways). Also, if you're up to it, take a whitewater rafting trip.
I also seem to vaguely remember that Fallingwater was closed for some renovations. Better check to make sure they're done.

Ingrid which is nicer to stay at the Lodge or the Chateau Lafayette??
|
I don't know. We stayed in one of the 2 BR townhouses because we went with the family. A friend of mine stayed in the Chateau, which she liked, even though it wasn't quite like the Ritz Paris (which I think it's supposed to imitate).

hi linda! my husband and i have stayed at nemacolin about 3 times.we just love it.we are fortunate in that we live about an hour and 20 minutes away.did you check out their web site?it's nemacolin.com.as far as the rooms go,the chateau would be my first choice but you can't go wrong withe the lodge either.you check in at the chateau so it's not like the lodge is far away or anything.you just have to walk through the chateau lafayette to get to different elevators.all of the restaurants are great.definitely make reservations for their sunday brunch which is in la trec-their french restaurant.one of the nicest brunches we've ever been to.the golden trout is also very good.they serve breakfast and lunch during the winter months.i don't know when you will be going but in the summer the golf is great and there's a nice pool area with swim up pool bar.the spa is first rate.i thought it was up there with greenbrier.my husband wasn't sure if he would like a spa treatment-massage,etc.but he loved it.please feel free to email me with any specific questions you may have.i'm there frequently for lunch when in that area on business.

I also live close and have stayed at Nemacolin for a few getaway weekends.

The rooms at the lodge are smaller than in the Chateau.

Pampering and services are exactly the same in either place. All buildings are connected (spa, lodge, chateau) so if it's winter or raining, you don't need to go outside.

By far, the Sunday brunch is the best in the area and not to be missed.

Fallingwater is a nice side trip if you don't want to stay at the hotel all day.

There is also a french 6 course price fix restaurant in Hopewood called Chez Gerard. It is less than a 10 minute drive from Nemacolin and worth checking
out (www.chezgerard.net/index.html) if you don't want to have all dining at the hotel.
