Speedy,
I live about 15 minutes from the Resort. It is nestled in the Laurel Highlands, and I guess the term to describe the area would be rural. Couple of things you can do--As someone else mentioned, a few historic/notable places to visit: Fort Necessity, Fallingwater (as mentioned), and for a beautiful retreat, a 10-15 minute drive from Nemacolin is Ohiopyle Falls State Park, a great place to view rumbling falls, picnic, whitewater raft, bike/walk on the Yough River Trail (which extends from this area to near Pittsburgh and upon completion, D.C.), and hike. Another 6-8 minutes short trip heading West on Route 40, you will see Mt. Summit Inn and about 1/4 mile west where the Inn is located (atop Mt. Summit) is a grand view and lookout area where you can see from atop the Summit for miles. There are a few quaint country shoppes along Route 40 near Nemacolin as well. Nemacolin itself will offer much in the way of recreation with just about every available thing to do--bowling, swimming, the spa/fitness center, golf, crochet, riding, tennis, indoor shopping venue, etc. It is both a lavish and pricey destination.
