Need your advice on odd b&b booking...

I made an email reservation for a b&b 2 weeks ago. I gave my credit card number as one night was supposed to be charged as a deposit. The owner emailed me back and told me he held the dates for me, but he would email a detailed confirmation over the weekend.

The weekend came and went and I did not hear from him. Then I had a question, so I emailed him and reminded him that I still did not get a confirmation. Still nothing. Last night I emailed him and told him that I want to make 100% certain that I have a reservation because he has not emailed me a confirmation or charged me ... and here it is 5pm (MT/ 4pm PT) AND STILL NO RESPONCE!!

This is so odd - especially since he was emailing me almost immediately when I was asking for price quotes. I have never experienced anything like this before.

I now want to cancel (assuming I do have a reservation) ... What should I do?

Call him?

Hello Wallace and Gromit, perhaps his computer has crashed or he is having a problem with his email (I sure have had that happened). I assume you have checked your "junk mail" file to make sure his email is not there.

Yes, call him! I would certainly assume there is a phone no. on their website. It is amazing how many people only rely on emails which is not always reliable where in the phone is unless in that odd occasion due to weather conditions phone lines are down. Best regards.

I hate talking on the phone - but I guess you are right ;-)

Still though, it has been 2 weeks ... even if his computer was down he could have still charged me (that would give me a good indication I had a reservation) or he could have mailed me a confirmation to my house, or he could have called me.

It just seems so weird.

I should call

Spam folders tend to get emails that aren't always spam. LoveItaly is right that you should check there.

Is the charge on your credit card?? I would check that out and then call and ask.

B&B owner's aren't always the best business people, especially it it is a small place. There could be several reasons why no email, but they would all be guesses.

Check your credit card and then call. Decide if you want to stay there or not. Also, if the card has been charged, the B&B might not refund the deposit or will charge you a fee to cancel. Consider that in your thinking.

I have gmail - so since I emailed him, his email will always get sent directly to my inbox - but I still checked. Actually, that is the first thing I did.

Also, I called my Visa (and viewed my statement online) and there are no charges or pending charges from the b&b.

Can I just say that if I ran a business and my computer crashed or was not working ... I certainly would not let it go for 2 weeks. I would even go to a cyber cafe if I had too.

I am particularly surprised by this b&b because they have gotten such rave reviews!

Another thing, he has a staff. The owner also has an Inn Keeper - so even if he was in the hospital or something, you would think someone else could take care of business.

I didn't get a chance to call tonight. I will tomorrow.

I just have to say, I love your screen name! Did you know (well, you probably do) there is a new movie coming out?

Wallace_and_Gromit May 11th, 2009 09:20 PM

Hi Monica

Thanks! Yes, I know about the movie but I am still not sure when it will be coming to the US (or where) - I am on their mailing list, so hopefully I'll hear something soon. :-D
