Need to stay in Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms?
 

If you are not a golfer, is there any real advantage to staying in Wild Dunes on the Isle of Palms?

If there is an advantage, what would it be? Beyond use of a pool, I'm not sure we would really care.

Have stayed in Wild Dunes (teenage children at the time, all of us non-golfers) and wouldn't bother to do it again.

Look at Sullivan's Island as well as Isle of Palms. Both very nice.

I agree - I love Isle of Palms, but don't understand the benefit of staying behind the Wild Dunes' gate. Plus, there is some pretty bad beach erosion on that part of the island.

Did you know that Wild Dunes has a severe erosion problem and that a row of condos and part of the golf course is falling into the ocean.

My family and I rented a house on Wild DUnes for last June but one week before our vacation they told us about the erosion and offered us a 100% refund. Luckily we found something else in Isle of Palms that worked out.

After looking at the pictures: Wow. Gives an entirely new meaning to "beachfront" property, doesn't it?

To be fair, that's only one specific section of Wild Dunes' beach, and the tides are wide so it's only that bad around high tide.

But you'd certainly want to know where your place was in Wild Dunes relative to the erosion problem.

Just for the record, they fixed the beach erosion problem and in summer 2009, the beaches are broad and wonderful throughout Wild Dunes. We've been going there for years, and love the place. (Well, mostly love it. Not loving the new condos so close to the Pavillion.)
