need to scape the heat
My husband and I can take 4night/5days off. We want to go somewhere where it's cooler than central florida, but our time is limited. We just want a laid back setting to relax, lounge, get good meals. We don't want to spend alot of time traveling, a short flight would be nice. I've considered New England, but don't know where, plus this is the height of summer, and not alot of places have affordable vacancies. Any suggestions?

Consider New Hampshire. You can fly to Manchester, NH (airport code: MHT) non-stop from a few cities in Florida, most are on Southwest Airlines. Takes about 3 hours.
From Manchester you can drive 45 minutes east to Portsmouth, 45 minutes west to Peterborough, or 45 minutes north to the famous Lake Winnipesaukee and stay in the town of Meredith.
All have relaxation, are good walking around towns, very scenic, and have good restuarants, shops and entertainment.
Actually you can even have your base in Manchester and take short full or half day trips to these and other areas.
If any of these are of interest, I can give you more details if you reply.

Just a FYI - I live in Central Fl and in the past few weeks Maine has had higher temps than here.... That is not normal but the weather is not the same as it use to be. it was very humid there too, and it is a different type of humidity than here...very BAD! We own in Maine, for over 20 years, and have seen things evolve as far as weather. There is no guarantee it will be cooler or less humid there, now, or at leat until mid-September. Last Sptember 8th we were in MA and it was horribley hot and humid! I think I might go for the Panhandle or just the beach here...just my HO!

Planning a trip based on weather is almost always a gamble. Mother Nature always has the last say.
Here in New England we have many indoor attractions too so if the weather is less than perfect, you should be able to find a good selection of indoor things to do (depending on what your idea of enjoyable is). If nothing else, it's a lovely change of scenery up here compared to Florida.

New Hampshire is divided into regions, depending on your interests you might like the Lakes Region or the Seacoast the best. Both are about one hour from the Manchester, NH airport and boast good restuarants, sightseeing, lodging, and are pretty easy to find your way around. Both are good walking towns.
If you'd like to see historical NH, go to the Seascoast and stay in Portsmouth, NH. Portsmouth has a lot of history and preservation and will be cooler than inland NH since it's on the coast. It has all the fresh seafood you could want. Take in Strawbery Banke (yes with one "r"). strawberybanke.org.
If you like lakes, boating, lazing in the sun, swimming, and beautiful vistas go to Meredith, NH in the Lakes Region. Check out Mill Falls (millfalls.com). If you go to Meredith, take a day or evening dinner cruise on the VERY famous Mount Washington boat. Have at least one meal at Mame's. Once there you will find plenty to do each day in either place.
You can do a lot of shopping and antiquing in both places if you're into that.
Both areas are great. It's hard to rate one better than the other.
Try newhampshire.com also. Hope this helps.
