Need to go From New York To New Orleans by boat for medical reasons.
My mother will arrive in New York Dec 21st via boat and is unable to fly because of medical complications from a fight with Leukemia. I need to get her from there to Austin TX and would like to find boat transportation from NY to NOrl then via ambulance to Austin . Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can't imagine there being a decent way to get from NY to NO via boat. No passenger ships do this routing and you wouldn't want passenger accommodations on cargo ships! How about Amtrak?

(Try Houston instead of N.O., also. Houston is MUCH closer to Austin)

If I were you I'd contact the hospital in Austin for advice. Hospitals are very accustomed to medical evacuations and they should be able to help you. I agree with Dan that Amtrak sounds like a much better option than a boat.

have you looked too see if an air ambulance can help..

http://www.medjet.com/services.html

This time of year, all the big boats that stay in New England for the summer are heading to the caribbean. Contact a local yatch club to see if they can network for you. Good luck!

What about by car? You can surely get to your destinations faster by car then by boat.

In fact, it seems quite stupid by boat - you would have to go all the way to the tip of Florida, then all the way back up the coast - by boat would take at least 3 days. Never heard of such a thing.
Besides, if this is so serious, why are you seeking advice from strangers on a travel board? Surely the hospitals can assist with this arragements.
