I would call specific airlines that fly that route and ask about special fares...similar to bereavment fares. I am not sure if Southwest flies that route, but I think they have these kinds of fares.

Hope this helps...

You can do it on Southwest but be prepared for possibly several plane changes. It can take anywhere between 4 and 7 hours depending on the route www.iflyswa.com

you could also look on an aggregator site such as www.itasoftware.com or a consolidator such as www.onetravel.com then check with the airline sites directly to see if you can get a matching fare. I somehow doubt you'll qualify for a bereavement fare which usually is for deaths but you can ask.

According to kayak.com, Frontier is cheapest at $519. Frontier is fine.

Good luck to your mom.

$479 on SWA, leaving Detroit Sunday and returning the following Sunday. 1 plane change each way, but good grief...you leave Detroit at 10:40 and get here at 6:40, and going home, leave here at 7:05 and get to Detroit at 5:55. Wild horses couldn't get me to take that schedule!

Best of luck to your Mom, AnnaR!

Frontier's was a non-stop with a return 4 days later. It may be cheaper with a Saturday night stay.

Go to Kayak and play with dates if you aren't sure of your return.

"similar to bereavment fares" I did not mean Anna would be entitled to that exact fare, but I think the fares I am referring to are called "hardship" or something with a similar name for an other type of emergency situation. I think you have to show some sort of verification from hospital saying it was unscheduled.

I could be wrong but thought I'd seen this around.

As far as I know, it has been years since the bereavement fare has been cheaper than buying another type of tix. They usually give a discount off a full fare, but a cheaper fare can usually be found.

AnnaR may want to find the lowest fare and contact the airline directly to see if they will give a discount off that fare. Worth the effort - but the likelihood is low.

Lo siento, mi amiga.
I hope everything goes well.
When my elderly parents began "declining" we all "saved" FF miles for family emergencies.
Saludos.

I've found a for with Southwest departing for $319 and promotional fare for $190 for the return, total $519. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the different prices on a round trip like this?
