Need suggestions for sudden free time!!!

After working nonstop, moving, and dealing with a teenager, I suddenly find myself with absolutely nothing to do for ten days starting this coming Sunday. I live in Los Angeles. Have a passport and really want to go do something extraordinary.

I love walking (not hiking per se) like through cities, museums, farmer's markets.

My question is: Where would you go if you could go anywhere, to be by yourself and get to do anything you wanted, eat what/when/where you wanted, for a desperately needed change of pace?

Thank you all travelers for your advice!

With only 4 days till Sunday, OP is either going to have to pay big bucks to go oversea or get a killer last minute deal. Even flying domestic is going take a great last minute deal. Driving somewhere may be only practical way to go.

Wow! Thank you. Yes, I am hoping for a last minute miracle deal.

DebitNM: great minds...I did the Alb, Santa Fe, Denver trip last year!

Keep the suggestions coming! I might have to splurge.

Thanks everybody!

Air France has LAX to Reykjavik for $1400 round trip for those dates according to Kayak. I know it might sound like an off-the-wall suggestion, but it really is where I would go for most of what you said, and particularly for the gorgeous cool summer weather for walking in! :)

Happy planning! Last minute can be so cool.

You want extraordinary? July is the best time of year to visit Tahiti. Quantas has roundtrip at $1600 and the Intercontinental Resort is $250 per night.

Amtrak Coast Starlight in a roomete (sleeper) all the way to Vancouver BC Canada. A good place to take a walk is in Stanley Park. Fly home if you don't like the train.
