Need suggestions for Lake Powell itinerary
 

Hi. My family of 6 is intent on visiting Lake Powell in the summer to rent a houseboat.

I love the idea but would like to get a couple stops in along the way. Living in the eastern US makes routing challenging, so I'm hoping those of you familiar with the area can offer help.

I'm not sure whether to look at the north or south end of Lake Powell. Primary factor will depend on ease of travel between there and major airport.

I'm hoping the south end is preferred, because I'd LOVE to stop by Zion and do a one day guided rappel.

If we choose south and Zion, is it easily feasible to also see the Grand Canyon?

We're a family of 6 (4 teenagers), so we want to be driving as little as possible.

Suggestions?

Go to Zion first from Las Vegas. If the weather is good, go to the North Rim south from Alt 89. I'm guessing you'll do better with a houseboat rental from Page.
Depending on how much time you have you may want to visit at least one more of the "Big 5" National Parks in southern Utah.

Furthest north Lake Powell Marina is Hite.
Verify lake water level as that marina may be closed.

Your houseboat should have a Fish Finder guided by GPS. Also, with that fish finder, should be a map of Lake Powell. Those elements combined will give you the exact location of all inlets, marinas, etc.

Grand Canyon
South end is not convenient. Go to North end whose access is from Kanab. So the route would be: LV, Zion, Kanab and Page (Powell)
