Need suggestions for adventure
Two adults staying at the Four Seasons in Jackson Hole (October 24th to the 29th)and looking for fun, adventurous activities. Any suggestions? Is it reasonable to go on a single day rafting trip nearby? If so can anyone recommend an outfitter?

There are plenty of rafting trips right out of Jackson Hole, but I'd be surprised if there is even one in late October. Try checking with the Chamber of Commerce.

I remember going for a horseback ride many moons ago. Is it too late in the season for them? The view was incredible!
If DEMON is still alive, run the other way! |
go to jacksonhole.com and click on summer activities. It gives you an array of activities, and the outfitters for them.

HI Nanci,
Well, you are going between seasons. Summer activities will be mostly overwith and shut down, ski season hasn't started. The elk will be bugling and it's a great time for hiking though! Weather is cold now so wear lots of layers, including hats and gloves. You can MIGHT find some horseback riding. There are mostly "guest/dude " ranches in the area, but there is one day riding place I know of just south of town between Jackson and Hoback Jct. Sorry I can't remember the name, but the activities directory on one of the Jackson web pages will steer you. Have a great time! |
I think all the rafting companies have shut down for the season, unfortunately. But that should come as little surprise since we are expecting snow all this week. I would recommend possibly driving up into the Parks. As far as I know, the roads in Yellowstone will be open until the beginning of November. Few restaurants/cabins will be open, but if you're after adventure, you could probably manage a few hikes as long as the weather co-operates. Plus, you will virtually have the park all to yourselves, which is no small feat. I would definitely recommend a soak in the Boiling River, which is only about 5 miles shy of the Mammoth entrance. With the colder temps, the hot springs will be perfect.
Check out Granite Hot Springs as well. They're located just South of Jackson, in the Hobacks. Good luck and enjoy your trip. |
