Need suggestion: One night, on central Maine coast
We will be leaving Moosehead Lake heading to Acadia NP and would like to spend one night on the coast between the two. This will be late Sept. Doesn't have to be fancy. Would love to have some lobster for dinner that night. Any suggestions?

Hmmm...Moosehead Lake is kind of a straight diagonal shot from Bar Harbor, and it's a quick easy drive (and a very nice drive in September, btw.) Is there a reason you don't want to stay in Bar Harbor or thereabouts, near Acadia? I mean to say, Acadia is on the coast just a couple of hours from Moosehead...so I'm not sure what you mean by on-the-coast-yet-between-the-two.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. We are spending a few days at Moosehead Lake then heading to Salisbury Cove (BarHarbor) for a few days. I'd really love to stay a night between the two right on the ocean. Thanks.

OK, looks like Moosehead to Bar Harbor is a straight shot, but if you are looking for something maybe north of Bar Harbor, that adds quite a bit of driving but makes for an interesting stop then check out Roosevelt Campobello International Park off of Luebec, the furtherst NE point of the US. It is a US park that is actually in Canada so better check out if they require a passport. (I kind of doubt it.)The drive down 1 is an easy less traveled route through canberry bogs and small towns. Don't worry about finding lobster in Maine it is everywehere.

Late September is getting into leaf-peeping season but on the coast there is usually plenty of availability. I think I would just meander, especially if this is a weeknight. Set out from Moosehead on a little adventure, searching for the perfect little oceanside cabin or motel for the night. Nothing worse than booking something and then driving past 5 or 6 "perfect little spots" with vacancy signs lit up!

If I remember right, this was going to be a short trip? 5 days total? Bar Harbor IS on the ocean, not sure why you want to add another destination to this short trip?

If this is the sum total of your trip to Maine, 4 days Moosehead and 4 days Acadia....then on my free day in between I think I would venture south and see Camden/Rockport and then backtrack up to Acadia.
