Need some clear and concise driving directions for Chicago... please
 

Hello all... I'm looking for some very clear driving directions to a certain hotel in downtown Chicago. Will be coming in on I-55 North. The hotel is the Best Western Inn of Chicago on East Ohio Street. I know that I could use Mapquest or the like, but the last time I tried directions by them to an address in Washington D.C. they sent me on a wild goose chase and it was a terrible experience. Maybe it was due to my poor navigation skills, as well. <BR><BR>So if anyone can lend a bit of help with exit names/numbers, which direction the exit(s) are, as specific as possible, it would be much appreciated. You should call the hotel directly, that is a very easy hotel to find once off the highway.

Sandi, SOME people are more inclined to be helpful than others, and I know what it's like to drive from MapQuest directions. USELESS.<BR><BR>From I-55 (hope you aren't coming in during rush hour), it's best to take I-90/94 (Kennedy) north to the Ohio exit. Since the hotel is just past Michigan Ave. on your left (about a mile), you may have to go around the block to get to the front door (I don't remember exactly how things work right there.)<BR><BR>You can take I-55 (which doesn't go north here, it goes East-West) all the way in to Michigan Ave. and turn north on that to Ohio, but I really don't recommend it -- very congested, lots of lights and traffic so heavy it won't be very forgiving of an out-of-towner.<BR>

I also think the best route is 55 North to 94 West towards Wisconsin (even though it seems to be running north/south, 94 is east/west)to Ohio St. East. From the address it looks like it's just past Michigan Ave.

Hello again. Thanks for the advice. I do plan to get directions from the hotel but I want to compare. There are several different ways to do it, I would imagine. <BR><BR>Mapquest tells me to exit from I-55N to US-41N/Lakeshore Drive. <BR><BR>Expedia tells me to exit at 50-B from I-90. <BR><BR>So thanks again for some local advice. I will see what the hotel staff recommend as well. Planning to come into Chicago over this Labor Day weekend (for baseball if there's no strike!) <BR><BR>Sandi

Actually, taking LSD might not be a bad idea, although you'd have to loop around a bit (Ohio is one way going East). You could get off at Grand and go East to St. Clair, which is where the parking ramp entrance is (if I remember correctly, I used to work right there).<BR><BR>The merge at I55 and 90/94 can be really messy, and the Ohio ramp gets backed up.<BR><BR>HTH,<BR>Racy

I don't know if you were coming up for Friday's Cubs game or a later game but the Tribune reported this morning that Cubs fans will know by 12:20 (instead of the strike deadline time) if the strike will happen or not. If the players intend to strike, the Cubs will not show up at the park and the gates to Wrigley will not be opened. They had originally intended to have the players come out for warm-up and batting practice and then just not come out of the dug-out if the strike went forward. Taking 90/94 may be a little more efficient, but taking Lake Shore Drive is beautiful. I highly recommend the latter to anyone visiting Chicago. Yes, it will be a bit slow, but you'll go past the Field Museum, Aquarium, JazzFest in Grant Park and catch a good view of Navy Pier, all while enjoying the lakefront. Go for it!

Take Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Much prettier than other routes.
